Re: "In which our critic embraces the Super Mario Bros. movi
I can't really say much at the moment, but let's just say I have "plans" which I hope might draw some positive attention to the movie, and maybe direct people here. But honestly? Don't ask about it. All I'll say is that the movie's 18th anniversary is less than a week away, with its two-de...

Re: Modern Sequel Thoughts
I wouldn't want much changed, though I understand certain aspects of the world would have to be updated. There'd have to be cellphones and computers, for instance, which are the two things that really date the first movie (the payphone and devo machine console/display). Loopholes: 1) Wasn't Daisy a...

Re: The last time you watched the movie?
I haven't watched the movie since it aired a couple of months ago on Family, but I have been watching some of the trailers and other videos from the site lately. I've also downloaded the Making of videos, the wife and I will probably be watching those with dinner soon. And I plan to watch the movie ...

Re: The debate of Mario's voice
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Basically, Charles Martinet's voice is ok, but Capt. Lou will always be remembered more. I kind of doubt that. For one, most kids who have been introduced to and grown up with Mario from the mid-90's to today have probably never seen the Super Show, and know Martine...

Re: "In which our critic embraces the Super Mario Bros. movi
Come to think of it, I thought Destructoid or someone had an updated "stand up for the Mario movie" article (I found one from 2007), but I can't seem to find it now. You're thinking of Why the Super Mario movie is an underappreciated masterpiece , which was a sarcastic piece, but is frequ...

"In which our critic embraces the Super Mario Bros. movie"
io9 just posted this on Friday. Haven't read it yet, but at a glance, I see no mention of the site here. Still, good to see someone come to the movie's defense on a fairly prominent site. Come to think of it, I thought Destructoid or someone had an updated "stand up for the Mario movie" a...

Re: Super Mario Bros. The Movie: The End of an Era?
Haven't had a chance to work with this since posting, but hopefully I'll get to do so soon... It's a good subject, but the article itself does lack some focus. I'd like to hear more about how the movie played into what was "known" about Mario at the time as well as why Nintendo would have ...

Plus Miyamoto saying Mario Bros. was in "New York sewers" or some-such, though that might have been as much an adjective as it was a specific backdrop. As far as I know, they've both officially gone with the Brooklyn thing and the Mushroom Kingdom bit... sometimes the former after the latt...

Re: The debate of Mario's voice
I sort of touched on this in that other thread I made (I should really do something with that at some point), but it's pretty much like two different eras of Mario for me. And for the new era of Mario, I like Charles Martinet just fine. In fact, before there were any Mario cartoons, his voice for Ma...

Re: What if : SMB Super Show revival in the style of the mov
I'd really have to see a "proof of concept" to see if it could work. As it is, I'm not sure "doing the Mario" is very compatible with "trusting the fungus." However, if the animation part continued in such a way that took cues from the movie... that would be interesting...

Novelization vs. Movie
I thought I had seen this addressed somewhere around here before, but can't seem to find it now. I'm interested in picking up a novelization of the movie, and hearing about how extensively the movie was changed between when it was written and when the "idiots" (as Hoskins put it) threw it ...

Yeah, that was my idea. Maybe spring-loaded or something... just so long as having the Stompers extended isn't the "default," as it were. A little switch or lock to keep them in would be good, even though that would probably wear down the springs.

Re: Lame IGN Article -- "10 Ways to Make a Good Mario Movie"
The biggest flaw I see is that they didn't just come out and say that their version should be a cartoon.
Then again, after reading how the whole thing should be shot in an angle like the side-scrolling games, I get the feeling this was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, anyway. Practically satire.

Problem with some of those is that female figures can be a hard sell, especially today. Back then? Maaaaaaybe. They did it with April O'Neil, but I'm not sure many others would be able to attain that kind of status on the toy shelf. Daisy is possible, given her importance. Maybe Bertha, since she's....

Attention Canadians! SMB Airs Tonight!
Full story is here , but to be blunt: It's on Family.ca this Sunday at 9pm. In addition, it's cited as having a run time of 91 minutes, versus the DVD's 104 minutes, which suggests that despite being commercial free (I think, I know their shows are), it sounds like something(s) may have been cut.
