EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW--Mark McCoy (Special Effects Crew)

UPDATE 11/15/10: Mark's interview has been updated with a lot of additional photographs focusing on the film's production--more fungus! Vehicles! Thwomp Stompers! Koopa Square! The Devo Chamber! Okay everyone, here's the deal: Mark McCoy, who worked on some of the special effects in our favorite Su...

Re: Devo-chamber scene

Yeah, you're absolutely correct. In the original script (and kinda somewhere in those storyboards), someone (be it bloober, wart, simon, lemmy, it changed a million times, which is probably why they cut it out) does in fact get de-evolved into slime BEFORE Toad gets turned into a Goomba. That's why ...

Whoa, no idea who Egan and James would be. And I've no idea why the forums were down. In fact, all of my websites were down for a while. Maybe my webhost was having problems or something.

Re: Iggy and Spike

Very good observations, guys. It's really interesting if you think of Iggy and Spike as Mario and Luigi's other-dimensional counterparts. One thing though--I don't think Iggy and Spike were ever named Bloober and Wart; I think they were just some lab technicians in the Devo Chamber scene.

Yes yes, hello people. I'm finally out of school for the semester! That means I can actually start working on this stuff. The script will be one of the first things I start working on, for sure!

Re: SMB 35mm Print

Well, first of all, the DVD is in widescreen. But it's not enhanced for widescreen DVD players or televisions, so make sure it's on the 4:3 mode of the player/TV so it doesn't stretch it out.

As far as I know, the DVD is in the original theatrical aspect ratio, so you'll see the whole picture.

Re: SMB 35mm Print

WOW man, just wow! That is awesome! Man, I wish I would've seen that on eBay or I would've gotten that myself. This has the potential to actually solve some interesting questions raised by the film's theatrical release. I've heard on a number of occasions that there is an extended scene of the first...

Re: Hey!

Hello there! Nice to have you here. In case you didn't know, 'Mama Luigi' is also the title of one of the Super Mario World cartoon episodes. I'll have to get that DVD release myself; perhaps it's in true widescreen (unlike our current NTSC version).

Hey, thanks for posting those links; I've come across both websites before, actually; I guess I just didn't read all the Hoskins interviews thoroughly enough to remember that part. And neat job on the sprite editing. By the way, those Thwomp Stompers are damn hard to draw period, let alone in sprite...

Hi people, Yeah, the website hasn't really had as many updates as I'd like; I have all the info/stuff in my head (and my house), but I had an appendectomy a couple weeks ago and now I'm knee-deep in college crap. Re: The Video game that never was

Huh? An SMB movie game was never in development. Street Fighter had one though, based on the movie. Kinda silly though, a game based on a movie...which is based on a game :P Same thing as a book that's based on a movie...that's based on a book.

Yeah, most of the actors I've seen that have made post-movie quotes have said they've hated being a part of the movie. John Leguizamo has a autobiography out now, and there's a small section in it about the SMB Movie. He mentions in it how Hoskins hated the directors, and how they'd just go together...

Re: Obscure Merchandise

See, isn't that freaky? It makes you wonder if they just royally screwed up with character names, or if that was a hint of stuff they planned on doing in future movies. Like, King Koopa wasn't really bowser, but Daisy's father WAS? I'm probably just reading too much into that though :P

Yeah, I have tons of stuff that'll be on it. Bottles, can you get a scan of that page for me? I didn't know the golden book had THAT in it! Actually, that's the second source I've seen that names Daisy's father as Bowser. In Todd Strasser's novelization there are numerous points in the novel that re...
