I'm not happy about the new cover--I saw it thinking it was an updated release, and was tricked into purchasing it, and disovered that it was just the same disc. Well, if you take the time to analyze, a lot of the "feel" of the SMB movie mimics Batman '89 in some places, just as it echoes Blade Runner.

Just take a look at the logos for SMB and Batman '89. Coincidence? I think not.

I do know that at least for some of the shots involving things like wires on the Thwomp Stomper scenes, and the scenes with the fireballs, the VFX department went back and had to erase the lines. This was probably done in some part with Yoshi as well.

I think one big thing to note is that the producers had two choices--try to make an accurate and faithful adaptation of the games (fantasy version) or make an accurate adaptation, while trying to re-imagine the concept (sci-fi version). And just to clear things up:

The city in the SMB Movie is called Dinohattan, and the area that you actually see in the film (the streets, shops, etc.) is Koopa Square--the busiest street in Dinohattan.

Exactly--they're aiming what they're doing at an audience and it's making them a TON of money right now. It just sucks that the primary, original Nintendo character franchises are being largely ignored in favor of these new things that are making them all this money.
