Re: Super Mario Bros. finally on a "Best Video Game Movies"

^Yep. They're good movies, but not like the game so much. I saw the newest film (Resident Evil: Afterlife) and it did have more game elements in there than the last couple of movies. However...they didn't explain them and they just kind of showed up and totally didn't fit with the world they had set...

SMB finally on (4) "Best Video Game Movies" lists

UPDATE--12/15/10: Just caught this one from the Reelz Channel. SMB made the 10/10 spot, but it's also worth noting that this was voted on by fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyvIagQEoTE Here's another one. SMB makes the bottom of the list again, but yes--it's a "best of" list, so that...

And this reminds me--on the old phpBB2 forum, someone had probably the best synopsis of an SMB sequel that I can think of. Unfortunately I think I've deleted that entire forum. Maybe I saved it somewhere--I'll have to look. There was an old board? If I remember correctly, both SMB Movie Archive and...

I took some scans today of an appropriate segment of the Japanese movie program pertaining to the development of the Goombas, Yoshi, and other creatures. Re: NEW DVD RELEASE--STILL NON-ANAMORPHIC--YOU CAN HELP!

I'm not happy about the new cover--I saw it thinking it was an updated release, and was tricked into purchasing it, and disovered that it was just the same disc. I don't think anyone on this forum is semi-happy about it. The interesting thing is, if you read a lot of the comments on the news stories...

Re: NEW DVD RELEASE--STILL NON-ANAMORPHIC--YOU CAN HELP!

Even though it's not "new" as we speak, the fact is that it was a quiet second release from the original 2003 DVD release. There was a DVD release in 2003 which sucked. Perhaps it was acceptable at the time, but certainly not by today's basic DVD standards. And then there was a second rele...

Re: The Return of Princess Daisy (wild mass guessing thread)

Yeah--IMDb's "facts" are hardly reliable. I highly doubt that "Wart" would have been the villain of SMB 2--and if he was, he wouldn't have been the devo technician with the same name. Just like with the whole The King/Bowser situation, this is probably another reason why the name...

You're absolutely right. We just have to figure out how to present our ideas to the right people on the right team at BV/Disney--and show them that there is both an interest in the film, as well as this website that has painstakingly tried to compile as much potential info on the film as possible. Dinohattan just makes the most sense. And yeah, it's on the video box, the action figure backing boards, it's in numerous interviews, etc. I think at one point, the town was called "Dino-York" or "Dinoyark," but I think people around the set were just calling it Dinohattan and th...

Re: Missing items/Enimies that should have been in the film

Well, if you take the time to analyze, a lot of the "feel" of the SMB movie mimics Batman '89 in some places, just as it echoes Blade Runner.

Just take a look at the logos for SMB and Batman '89. Coincidence? I think not.

I do know that at least for some of the shots involving things like wires on the Thwomp Stomper scenes, and the scenes with the fireballs, the VFX department went back and had to erase the lines. This was probably done in some part with Yoshi as well.

Re: NEW DVD RELEASE--STILL NON-ANAMORPHIC--YOU CAN HELP!

I think one big thing to note is that the producers had two choices--try to make an accurate and faithful adaptation of the games (fantasy version) or make an accurate adaptation, while trying to re-imagine the concept (sci-fi version). At the end of the day, they tried doing both things--and they p...

Wow, I never thought of that! I could totally see a Chain Chomp grappling pistol--where the chain chomp latches onto things and pulls you up, attached by the chains. Kind of like the Hookshot from Zelda, only with a chain chomp at the end. Awesome! That would really fit in with the rest of the SMB M...

I kind of like the term "Dinoverse" to describe the SMB Movie world/universe.

And just to clear things up:

The city in the SMB Movie is called Dinohattan, and the area that you actually see in the film (the streets, shops, etc.) is Koopa Square--the busiest street in Dinohattan.

I'm not sure, but I think somewhere along the line someone focused only on making an adaptation of the SMB games, rather than making a good movie that just happened to feature the Super Mario characters and indicia. Well, in my opinion, the vision of the directors was to make a good movie that just...

Also, it seemed like de-evolution as a concept wasn't as well-defined or explored in the original script as well. The old king wasn't explicitly stated as being Daisy's father. You never saw someone being transformed straight into a Goomba. And, as cool as the final T-Rex battle could've been, Koopa...
