Re: SMB Fan-cut/edit

I too agree that the film really is Luigi's story in the end. And it was from the start--even in the super early draft scripts. The scene works either way, but if you do cut out Mario talking, cut it out completely.

Re: SMB Fan-cut/edit

I get what you mean, and I quite like it. I originally suggested quite the same thing... Actually, I've just now got a new idea: what if we start with a SMB sprite of Mario that walks up and hits the LightMotive logo, turning it into the Allied Filmmakers logo. He then walks off stage, returning fr...

Re: Suggestion: Actor Profiles

I always thought of doing them both on one page, for the character and the actor that plays them. And then maybe I could have some links or something to SMB-related things pertaining to that actor, like their website, or like John Leguizamo has an autobiography where he mentions SMB, etc.

Re: SMB Fan-cut/edit

The SMW sprite would be perfect, as that was the most "recent" Mario game at the time of the film's release. And really, wouldn't it have been awesome to have had a flashback with Koopa taking over Dinohattan, wielding a flamethrower or something ? Oh, and IIRC, there's a really...interest...

Re: SMB Fan-cut/edit

That reminded me EXACTLY of the SMBSS opening. The whole "zoom in on a pixelated image of NYC" before entering the Mario's apartment. That part was great. And yeah, if possible, it would be neat to have a Mario sprite running into the background, jumping into an initially blank box--upon h...

Re: SMB Fan-cut/edit

I'm sure you're trying to be clever by referencing some obscure Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy thing or something, but in case you aren't, Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson) does that intro narration. What I'm suggesting is to overlay that scene, without Dan's voice and let Toad do the talking. Off ...

Wonderful suggestion. Perhaps I'll put it in the "Specials" section, name it "Character Profiles" or something, and put up some good images of them like you're describing. Off the top of my head, there's a good promo shot of Daisy that's on the back cover of the bootlegged score ...

Haha, it's amazing that this is the most requested thing to be taken out, the 16-bit opening animation. They could have worked that into the movie in other ways. Like having that guy on TV (the one luigi is watching) talk about the two dimensions. Dino and Humans. Much more subtle and less "in...

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review

Mario and Luigi's last name being Mario was stated in at least one other media (I believe a comic/manga serial), but Nintendo doesn't really treat the Mario games with any sense of continuity. They like to leave things vague. Right. And I don't blame them for it, because the point of the games are ...

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review

Yeah, so in Nintendo's current universe, Mario has no last name, was born in the Mushroom Kingdom, and, no offense to Charles Martinet, sounds like a complete weirdo when speaking. All the intriguing Mario "backstory" parts of the canon were a lot better in the old days, IMO.

He e-mailed me saying he wanted to be every character, and he wanted the N64-to now, Mario voice. Anyone that would rather listen to anything more than five minutes of the Charles Martinet Mario voice is an idiot. It works okay in the games and really captures a nice, whimsical spirit, but if it's ...

As far as I know, there has only been one US DVD release. And it sucks. It's completely bare bones, and it's NOT optimized correctly for widescreen displays. The quality is the best available at the moment, however.

Yes, the VHS screener has a "Behind the Scenes" featurette that I plan on converting. And with all the evidence I've managed to gather, there is a LOT of stuff that was cut. Mind-boggling, actually. And I'm sure there's a lot more that we don't know about yet.
