Re: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW--Robert Rothbard (Production Manager

This was an awesome interview. While brief, Robert discussed a lot of things we haven't really heard before. It's very interesting to hear (and see!) what places could have been Dinohattan. The Gowana Flushing Station would have certainly made for a fantastic location, but the cement factory, despit...

Re: Good Bad Flicks Reviews Super Mario Bros

My original cut was almost an hour! There was just too much to fit in and I decided to scrap some things here and there. In hindsight I would have liked to trim more of the movie summary and leave in a bit more of the backstory. However I didn't have time to go back and re-record some of my audio s...

This is truly one of the best and most comprehensive reviews of the film that I have ever seen. Ryan had mentioned to me that you had contacted him about doing such a review, but I didn't except it to have so much depth. I'm pleasantly surprised. The film really deserves to have said about it all th...

Re: Super Mario Bros. Review

I agree that Hopper's restraint lends a more enjoyable performance to his Koopa, though there are a few scenes where I would have totally loved to see him display a more sociopathic, deranged quality. (His character during those script-change freakouts would have been nice to see in the movie. xD) Y...

It's fascinating to see the film focused on Daisy and her role in the story rather than on Mario and Luigi. Characterization in the film was unfortunately little to none, though Daisy probably came out ahead simply because of her unique role in the story. (They actually filmed a huge character arc f...

It seems like Pyun is working towards releasing Director's Cuts of his other films as well. An earlier io9 article, Is it finally time for the director of the original Captain America to get some love? , mentions that Pyun salvaged a VHS telecine of his Jean-Claude Van Damme film Cyborg . Honestly, I'd probably play any of the MP games over the sports ones. Except Mario Tennis on the N64--that was awesome. I honestly don't see the appeal of any sports game, really. The Mario sports games have brand recognition and likely some gimmick to them, but I'd never find a reason to play them...

Thought this was relevant to what we're trying to do with Super Mario Bros. : the 1990, low-budget "Captain America" film by Albert Pyun will be re-released this May . Obviously, this is to cash in on the upcoming new Captain America film, but the interesting part is what they're doing wit...

I'm 21 and first experienced the movie around age five. I'd always enjoyed it, but it's only been the last year or so that I've gotten back into it. I think it's fair to say that most of the film's fans are a little older or a little younger. There's good reason for that: we first experienced it and...

I've recently been on a Mario Party fix as it was the one "Mario" game I could convince my girlfriend to play. For awhile, we were playing Mario party 2 nearly every night for a week, then every other day the following week. I had a lot of fun revisiting the game as well as introducing it ...

The complete track really is much better. Sometimes when watching the movie I'll stop to focus in on the soundtrack. It's always so good, oftentimes blending into the action of the movie. Yeah, the movie gets a really bad rap. It's unfortunate that so many people haven't seen it or aren't even aware of it solely because of the word of people that don't appreciate it. Many people that eventually do see it feel it's enjoyable, even if not necessarily "good." (However, I would...

Mario and Luigi definitely shouldn't have looked or acted the same. At the time in the games they really were just carbon-copies of each other. Sure, some media depicted Luigi as taller and less courageous, but those differences wouldn't really solidify until years after the movie had been written. ...

I've signed it, though I agree with KoopaBro64 that a true sequel on-film is very unlikely. Even a completely unrelated reboot is only slightly more possible. Sadly, both Hoskins and Leguizamo simply look too old for their original roles. Even Samantha Mathis, who is still quite beautiful, has begun to show her age. If they were to make a reboot I would not want any of the original actors to return. Additionally, it seems as if all the likely candidates h...
