4/28/13--Japanese DVD Release

Here's an interesting tidbit: Super Mario Bros. will see its first official DVD release in Japan this August. According to THIS translated press release from Game Watch, the film (officially titled Super Mario Bros. Goddess of the Demon World) will be released on August 7 and will support Stereo Dolby Digital audio and include the film's trailer.

Our favorite part of the press release? That they point out a Blu-Ray release is definitely not coming any time soon. At least they asked about it. Regardless, the SMB Archive will pick this up when it comes out and report on its quality. Coincidentally, we just acquired the Japanese VHS, so it should be a fun comparison!

At least not in Nippon, there's not.

Considering we apparently got the first DVD release, if it should come to pass, we'll get the first Blu-Ray release as well.

The picture of Luigi and Daisy playing Super Mario World...
Was this a scene from the Actual Movie? Because this is the greatest picture I have ever seen.

It was a promo photo, like the other one you may have seen of Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo playing Game Boys. :P

I don't believe so. We sort of dropped the ball on a lot of projects over the last year. The 20th anniversary screenings just burned us out so much.

We'll look into picking up a copy soon, but be sure to check back for news on the upcoming UK Blu-Ray release!
