A place for those who "Trust the Fungus"

LOTS of cool stuff for today, guys:

* Remember the Making of Super Mario Bros. featurette that I discovered and posted way back in 2007? Well, I've tracked down a different version of that. What's different, you ask? Well, it seems to be the "original" video--the one I posted in '07 had a different voiceover, and had the 'Almost Unreal' music video shoehorned into it as an additional feature. This newer version is a much cleaner transfer, has no music video, and has a different narrator, among other things. Visit the Behind the Scenes page to watch it for yourself!

* Oh, also...that newly-discovered featurette...it revealed a new Deleted Scene! And since I believe that makes this the first "complete" deleted scene that we have on film, I figured that this would be a perfect time to launch the ongoing Deleted Scenes special section! I've started sections for NUMBER deleted scenes so far, complete with anaylsis and speculation. Like I said, this is an ongoing section, so it'll be updated with new stuff as I find the time to work on it. For even more info, check out the Deleted Scenes forum thread.

* Also, don't forget our upcoming interview with Mark Miller and Michael Harding--here's the forum post for that.

It's also worth noting that I jumped the gun just a bit--although the deleted scenes videos should work, the new "Making of" video is still uploading. It should be up soon though--just search for "The Making of Super Mario Bros.--New Version" or look up my YouTube channel (Phlibbit) to see them when they're done.

That's really great that your buy of the German release led to such a find! I wasn't getting my hopes up when you mentioned getting the DVD.

You know, I had a feeling that there were further scenes involving the Brooklyn Girls. So much so I was really going to make that a question for Dana Kaminski and Andrea Powell... Looks like my feeling was right!

And I'm surprised! You didn't include the two big ones: the extended devolution chamber scene and the Iggy & Spike "rap" scene... While the former is mostly just "did you notice that extra Goomba uniform and puddle of slime?" the latter does have quite a few promotional images. Any reason those two aren't mentioned?

Yeah, because I just haven't gotten to them yet--it's an ongoing section. The ones I posted today--I have video for. The other scenes you mention will all be included in due time. I just didn't want to tackle stuff like the Devo chamber scene just yet--for various reasons, but mainly because it's so convoluted.

I already like this featurette version better than the other one. Lot of cool stuff noticed. Looking forward to Part 2 to be up!

haha I loved that "wanna cigarette" scene! Just the fact she offered the goomba a cigarette shows off the comedic tones that the movie was trying to tie in.

I enjoyed this version of the featurette a lot more. Just getting to see of those deleted scenes, and the extended footage of the goombas on the set, especially the crew member who kissed the snake goomba! XD

Awesome, very interesting variation of the other video (were can be founded the original), but they still missing one of the most important (and my personal favorite) aspect of the movie

I was just rewatching this, and I found something kind of cool.

Notice at about 11:17 into part I. Look at the shirt John Fifer is wearing.
