EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW--Parker Bennett (Screenwriter)

UPDATE 8/8/11--The interview with Parker Bennett is up! Click HERE to read it!

Parker Bennett and Terry Runté were given the daunting task of wrangling Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel's revitalized concept for Super Mario Bros. into a cohesive story. Their creativity and drive to make an intriguing screenplay led to an intense collaborative effort with the directors, resulting in a story that laid the foundation for the rest of the project.

While Terry is unfortunately no longer with us, a piece of him lives on through Parker's detailed look back on the film's creative process. Read on and learn how they helped make the film into what it is; whether an instant failure or an eventual success, they tried. No one can deny that.

I just tore through the interview, great stuff. Parker Bennett provides a vast amount of insight into the making of the movie and reflects thoughtfully on the finished product. I also must say that his and Terry Runte's draft of the script was my favorite out of all of the known drafts, as it was the closest to the games while still being a hardcore sci-fi movie. Good stuff.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

I didn't see this update until today, but man! What an interview! Parker comes across as a really nice guy with plenty to talk about both the production and the scripts. I love how the two of you grilled him with all these questions about the early draft mythos and whatnot, and he actually had some great answers to offer. It seemed like he remembered a lot more than he was letting on. =P

Now if only we could get ahold of the fabled Barry Morrow first draft and interview him... And Ed Solomon. And Ian la Francis and Dick Clement. And Jim Jennewein and Tom S. Parker... we need to get in contact with these people! If any of them are half as interesting as Parker Bennett then we're in for a treat!
