We've got yet another exciting interview in the works--this time with
Chris Woods, the film's FX Supervisor.
Here's what he had to say about the things he did on the film:
I was the Visual Effects Supervisor, Designer and Producer, as well as being the 2nd Unit director for Visual Effects. In addition, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to start and run the ground breaking Digital studio that actually did the visual effects for the film.
I'm giving everyone until
Saturday, September 25 at 3 PM EST to get their questions in.
So, let's hear 'em!

What was with the scene in the de-evolution chamber where the guard slips on the goo? Did he have any say in the removal of that scene? Was there a scene there in the first place?

This would probably be a good topic to get into--to ask him if the FX for that scene were completed. If so, that means that part was at least finished.

Working off what we've learned in recent interviews, I want to know how badly the budget was allocated and how that effected the use of special effects. How many establishing shots and in-scene elements were planned that they really just didn't have the time or money to pull off?
Related, I want to know how many shots/scenes involving special effects were attempted but ultimately canceled and how many were completed but cut from the finished film.
Finally, my last question is how much special effects were used in the film that we may not immediately be aware of.

Going off of what Redstar's asking, I wanted to ask:
There is a brief shot in the "Making of SMB" featurette that shows the crew filming a goomba head blow up in front of a blue screen. Did a goomba get turned into slime in the Devo Chamber scene as well? Or was that another action scene involving the Mario's fighting the goombas that was cut out due to violence?
Also, in the effects of De-evolving Koopa into his humanoid T-Rex form, was there supposed to be footage of him attacking the Marios in any kind of way? I know the Microchips book has a promo shot of him in those prosthetics holding the flamethrower. Although that could be just a promo shot and nothing else.
