EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW--Scott Mactavish (Goomba/Stunts)

Postby Phlibbit » Sun Oct 10, 2010 5:08 pm

UPDATE--1/24/11--Scott's interview is now up! You can find it here.

Yet another upcoming interview, guys! Get some questions in!

Scott Mactavish--Goomba/Stunts

Here's a description provided by Scott himself:

Regarding the scenes, I was a lizard head Goomba and was in most scenes with the lizard heads, including the elevator, ice tunnel, and at the end when Hopper gets zapped. I also had non-Goomba roles where SFX were used. For example, there's an early scene where a cop shoots a flamethrower at the Mario Brothers. That would be me. I also did some stunts in the prison scenes but you can't see me too well.

And an excerpt from our interview with Mark Miller and Mike Harding where they speak of him and his duties:

He was a Goomba wrangler--our costumes required a great deal of assistance and they were-they were kept by a full-length, heavy, heavy wool floor-length coat. And so, we were shooting in late summer and it got incredibly hot in there and it became necessary for people to look out for our well-being and in fact the guys at M-E-L designed a fan-system to the inside of the costume, but it was very ineffective. But Scott helped us out a lot and I think he may have suited up once or twice to be in the background but any time-Any action-scene where a Goomba actually had to do something it was one of us four guys.

I know that after Mike that interview might seem a bit redundant, but I'm quite sure Scott can offer a lot of information in areas we've yet to hear on or provide an entirely different perspective.

Try to look at him from the angle of a stuntman and a Goomba wrangler rather than a Goomba actor. See if you all can get some questions in for us! :D

ok here we go:

1. What stunts did you perform in the prison scenes? I'm guessing there is much more prison footage than what made it to the final cut of the film, because Mark Miller was shot flicking a cigarette at the Mario's in their cell.

2. Would you be able to give any advice to someone trying to make a fan-made replica goomba costume and how to wear it?

3. What was your interaction like with the other actors on the set? In other words, what was it like working with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, and the rest of the cast and extras? Were there a decent amount of positive experiences despite the moving flopping?
"Sir...the goombas are dancing again."

This interview has lain forgotten for too long! Check out my introductory comments to find out why it was delayed and how we managed to get it back. :)

I also want to let everyone know it turns out Scott actually was a Goomba! Seems Mike Harding was misremembering who Scott was, so everyone check out the interview to hear a much more informative interview than any of us expected!
