All of the granny and Big Bertha pages just crack me me, but what's with page 29? It looks like a Piranha Plant-style throne.

I like these drawings. It kind of makes me wish my deleted scene was animated with that style.

I used to own like several copies of that coloring book when I was a kid.

Ba-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Oh, man, I'm laughing my ass off at those drawings. So it's an improvement over the Ghostbusters II coloring book, but...Toad has a freaking Crescent Roll (apologies to Pillsbury) on his forehead. I'll say that again so it sinks in: HE HAS. A CRESCENT ROLL. ON HIS FOREHEAD. Sheer hilarity. And don't get me started on that old lady...she looks seriously freaky.

And what is that Big LIpped Alligator(TM) doing in the jail cell on page 15?

That's the whole point, it has a cheesy Disney cartoon feel, or some kind of action 80's cartoon. Drawings like that though the animation would have to be really smooth. Although I do think Luigi looks like some hip black kid from the early 90's.

The alligators in the jail is something I was wondering too, I also wonder who is that woman dropping her purse and drink looking at the spikey chair.

I think it was Koopa's throne or something appearing...maybe in a mall or somewhere when the merge started. Makes me wonder if there were more shots of things merging that were cut...

I guess it's easier to make reptilian extras in the city when you only have to draw them and not put people in makeup and prosthetic stuff :D

That's exactly what I think, too. I think some of those scenes are in the early draft or the novel or something, at least. That shows that they were at least planned.

My impression as well. It would be really cool to have them shot something like that, since a Piranha Plant-style throne would just be another Mario reference that I don't think could be ignored.

Maybe if they put it on bluray they'll take out the Twin Towers, all together, and then when it shows Koopas towers in the real world, it will show that scene instead. If they did that, I gotta say I'd be pretty angry.

There's no way in hell that kind of effort would be put into editing the film like that. I can only hope there's a workprint or deleted scenes laying around somewhere.

I don't think he necessarily meant they'd remove the towers being merged into Koopa's Tower, but they'd replace the shot with another example of the two worlds merging that was cut.

Exactly, I'm just making fun of what they did with Spider Man 1 (even though that movie sucks) back in 2001/02.

I just found out I actually own that coloring book. It was sitting beside my bed for about two years now and I never noticed it.

The coloring book, including 25 additional pages and cleaner scans, can now be found on the site under our Merchandise: Books sub-section. Check them out!

Those additional pages really make the "story" (as it is) so much more clear as well as adds context the pages seemingly random in the "Special Edition." More scenes and creatures are depicted really cool, particularly the Allosaurus Rats. It's nice to see them with some more mobility. Makes them more obvious pests.

The "waiter" Goomba also has an unusual head, especially since none of the other Goombas in the book are drawn that way.
