Obscure Merchandise/"King Bowser" Reference Thread

Seeing as Phlibbit is the biggest fanatic of the film, like, ever :P he'll probably rule this thread with an iron fist, but what do other people have?

Oddly enough, I have a Goldenbooks children's book based on the film...obviously a very dumbed-down adaption of the film, with half of each page taken up by a screen cap, and about a sixteenth of it actual text :P, but curiously, on the last page, it names the mushroom king as Bowser, like so...(I've bolded the specific part. I typed the whole page to give you an idea of HOW dumbed-down it is. lol.)

"But the two worlds had almost become one. Luigi and Daisy struggled to pull the crystal from the meteorite. Finally they yanked it free. The two worlds separated again. Luigi wanted Daisy to return to the human world with him. But she had a job to do. She wanted return her poor father, King Bowser, to his throne. So Luigi and Mario said good-bye to their friend Daisy. But who knows? Maybe the Mario brothers will meet her again someday."

Yeah, I have tons of stuff that'll be on it. Bottles, can you get a scan of that page for me? I didn't know the golden book had THAT in it! Actually, that's the second source I've seen that names Daisy's father as Bowser. In Todd Strasser's novelization there are numerous points in the novel that refer to Lance Hendrickson's character as Bowser, such as the scene that you just mentioned, and the scene in the movie in which King Koopa first talks to the king while he's a big fungus ball.

Can't scan, but I can trick my digital cam into taking a fairly good pic. Like so:

Later I'll try to take one with the book straight, but for now, this should do.

I have the film on VHS, that's all. But this stuff is all incredibly rare.

See, isn't that freaky? It makes you wonder if they just royally screwed up with character names, or if that was a hint of stuff they planned on doing in future movies. Like, King Koopa wasn't really bowser, but Daisy's father WAS? I'm probably just reading too much into that though :P

You can NEVER read too much into the Mario Bros movie!

I don't have as much as I'd have liked. The DVD, and the six action figures I think are pretty much it.

Oh, and the Microchips to Moviestars book and souveneir magazine (somewhere).

I'd love to see what all else exists.

...of course, I have plenty more Mario stuff, but for the movie, that's pretty much it.

This topic is a bit ancient but figured I'd reply here :D I don't know that I have anything that rare. The 6 figures, a storybook, a thermos(I think the lunchbox was thrown away I used to have) the trading card set, an old t-shirt from when I was like 10 years old :D the audio cassette that came with the poster/3D glasses, the button/pin they gave out when the movie was in theaters, saw it the first day, says May 28th. Anyway glad to be here, here's a few pics, my younger brother had a t-shirt too that had the Wanted Plumbers poster on a black shirt. Also of course the DVD and soundtrack

Image albeit in awful shape, has the famous deleted bits and some great pics.

As far as the toys, I've seen one pic of the Devo Chamber playset online and I think there was a Police Car too? Those things rarely seem to ever pop up!

Yes, there is a Devo Chamber and a police car (which is freaking AWESOME). I'm not sure if I've seen that shirt you posted. And I certainly haven't heard of the "Wanted" poster one...I'd love it if you could track that one down.

I haven't seen the police car in a loong time. Were there any other toys at all? I thought I heard somewhere there was a larger Mario figure, maybe 12 inch or something? Maybe not!

I think the other t-shirt is long gone. I remember it vaguely, it was pretty much the police station poster WANTED PLUMBERS and I think it said "Reward etc etc whatever" on a black shirt though.

Aw man. Maybe someone will track one down eventually. And yeah, there are a 12 inch talking Mario and Luigi; I have them both. There's a slew of merchandise that I'll archive eventually :)

I can't speak for the police car, I saw a small pic of it ages ago online. This site has a pic of the Devo Chamber!

Not sure if it's still for sale or not. :P

Here's one thing I'm glad I still have, I said earlier. It sure looks like it's 16 years old almost :D I think my brother might have his, probably in about the same shape. Still I remember it being a big deal seeing it in theaters. So excited and awesome! Nothing was bigger than Nintendo and Super Mario.

I found this a couple weeks ago going through my old stuff.

I dont have the 3D poster it came with though. I remember though it had a part where Mario got in a fight with a Scapelli brother in the resteraunt, and the narrator explained the one victom becoming slime.

haha I listened to it after digging it out the other day. Gotta love the bad acting and the cheesy random audio adaptation music. Also the deleted bits.

The trading cards are great and have some great shots as well as pics of the Scapellis and the Marios on the job. I guess when they take Daisy and Daniella out to dinner, it was on the house to the Marios since they didn't get the broken dishwasher job. I always wondered why the bio card on the back of the Mario figure said his favorite quote was "Nobody touches my tools" when it wasn't in the movie. It's in that deleted scene with the Scapellis where one of them grabs Mario by the toolbelt.

I have two of the holographic cards with Koopa changing and Toad changing. Even though the card for some reason says Lemmy, the back of the card says "Toad"

AGHHH! Bottles, Phlibbit...you know what?! I think I might have seen that very same storybook in a Crestwood dollar-store in 2001 or so! (*kicks self in the shins with Sonicblaster's replica Thwomp-boots*)
