The S.M.B.C Thread!

Welcome, to the Super Mario Brothers Conspiracy thread! This thread is a bit like the S.M.B.A Thread with analyzing certain aspects about Mario but A. We're talking about the games this time and B. This is about the creepy as hell aspects, the things we just can't explain yet find them to be the most interesting of the game, mostly. Here is the first conspiracy.

#1: The Residents of ShiverBurn Galaxy.

Status: Unsolved.

Game: Super Mario Galaxy 2.

These guys are just creepy, they don't talk, they don't move, and most of you don't even know they're there. For those of you who don't even know what I'm talking about, in ShiverBurn Galaxy from Mario Galaxy 2, if you just stop, get into first person mode and look directly at the cliffs of the Galaxy, you'll most likely see this:

Image

Good...GOD, are those guys creepy! Hell, I don't even think they're actual people. Some people have stated they're most likely trees, because the file for them was listed as trees, but there are two main reasons they are still creepy. One, you can never get real close too them, as I'm pretty sure there's no possible way to get to the cliff even with glitches. They're just...there!

Now what's the second reason? Well before the trees file, there is a file that (I think) is like Beyond Hell Valley...O_O'! Hell Valley?! WHAT?!

Well, there is another theory. Supposedly, the beings could actually be a hint at a sequel of Luigi's Mansion, since they look like the letters of the logo and in a weird way, they spell man. Could be.

Well, what are you thoughts on this? Is this just a weird little thing, or is there something a bit more sinister going on?

Now, let's talk about another odd thing,

#2: Luigi's Shadow (A hidden suicide)

Status: Unsolved.

Game: Luigi's Mansion.

This has always been popular with gamers, mostly because this thing is actually a mix between an easter egg (a horribly, smelly, ungodly evil easter egg), and a glitch. Wether or not this was intentional, it still exists. If you go to the telephone room, when the blackout is still present, and pick up a phone, wait for lightning to flash. Now look at the shadow.

Image

Good.............GOD! THAT IS BEYOND CREEPY! It's amazing, I can't believe this exists. It looks EXACTLY like Luigi is hanging. People have often asked if this was a true easter egg, why isn't it moving? Well, Nintendo was probably already on an edge as it was, they probably stylized it so it wouldn't be too creepy. So really, WHAT'S WITH THIS NINTENDO!!!

My guess is, in the game the ghosts want to stop Luigi from saving Mario, and would do anything to stop him. Also, look how far Luigi is in the game, this far in, it makes perfect sense the ghosts would use this tactic. Or maybe I'm just being childish about this.

What do you think? Is this just a glitch, or did Nintendo purposely add this in?

Time for the last conspiracy of the day.

#3: MARIO (A SMW Hack)

Status: Unsolved

Game: Hack of Super Mario World.

This is a creepy and I mean creepy hack of SMW. It only has the first world in it, and the first level of the second world, but trust me when I tell you it's creepy. Let me tell you the basics. MARIO is a Super Mario World ROM hack creepypasta written by SMW Central user Adam. The patch itself is made by SMW Central user M A R I O, whose avatar is a SMW Mario without a face. He (she?) seems to be trying not to be seen as inactive (one month of no activity makes you inactive on SMW Central), as he posts mysterious and eerie things every now and then, just before he would turn inactive.

Now at first, you'd think, hey it's a creepypasta, this can't possibly be real! But oh no, there are many videos of users playing the game. It is creepy, to give you an idea of the story, here are some clips from the long and I mean LONG tale.

I got to a hack called "MARIO". Just that, nothing more, nothing less. The description seemed quite odd, as if some Japanese hacker was trying to translate the original plot of Super Mario World into English and failing horribly. I showed this to kieran and he started laughing at the description, it reads as follows:
"As you play the role of Super Mario plumber, verify that you are beautiful Purinsesutozutouru again Bowser kidnapped the evil king. It is your job to save her! This hack includes six levels of very long."
I simply dismissed this as someone trying to act Japanese and release a crappy hack with some edits, or so, that's what I thought this was, at first...
Curiosity got the best of me. I decided to download the hack. Not knowing what I was in for, since the single screenshot of the hack was the title screen with nothing but the letters "MARIO" from Super Mario World's title screen. I thought it was a little odd how there were no dates or anything either, as hackers usually place their names and dates on the titles to mark when the project was started.

So, when I opened the hack, I was greeted by 2 files. One called 3007014, a simple .txt file 27 KB in size, and the IPS file, simply named "MARIO". For some odd reason I wanted to see what the author of the hack had to say, but I opened the hack in Notepad but there was nothing but indistinguishable symbols and letters and punctuation

though I could be wrong. Taking a closer look, at the top of the .txt file mixed in with the gibberish I find the only thing that looks like English there. Here is a piece of what I found:
"ÿØÿà JFIF H H ÿþ 1find me find me find me find me find me find meÿÛ C"

So, the title screen loaded, exactly like it would with Super Mario World, except it had just "MARIO" on the title like I had mentioned earlier. Something else had grabbed my interest moreso than the unusual absence of layer 3 tiles on the title screen. Mario's normal bright colored and happy palette seemed, how can I put it... "dull". What was once violet-like red was now what seemed like grey with a slight red tint to it, and I'm fairly sure his pants were looking more grey than blue too... I thought this was strange, and I wondered why he had decided to give Mario such a dull palette... Regardless as to what his intentions were, I felt that something was... wrong. Not in the sense that the palette was slightly bad, but, that the hack was, empty, like something had happened.

like a lot of other countless Mario hacks I have played in the past, there was some sort of intro screen that basically described the entirety of the plot in a short paragraph just small enough to fit into a small black box. I began reading, and for the most part, the message stayed the same, but there was one key factor that made this interesting. Apparently the main antagonist of this hack wasn't Bowser at all... it was... Mario?!
The message says as follows:
"Welcome! This is Dinosaur Land. In this strange land we find that Princess Toadstool is missing again! Looks like Mario is at it again!"

Upon reaching what was before known as "YOSHI'S ISLAND 1", the level was now labelled "never come back". Now I thought things were going to be all kaizo death trap, because generally that is what people name their levels in kaizo hacks to make sure the player doesn't go there. To my surprise, it wasn't quite that way, though, I wish that it had been. Upon entering level 105 I am greeted by the insanely loud clown car sound that Bowser's flying vehicle makes right before Peach falls out.

Now I was wondering why things were like this, making me wonder about the intro message. Had Mario done something previously to Dinosaur Land? Was this in Bowser's point of view? I quickly dismissed the latter option, because it seemed kind of stupid. So that left me thinking that Mario at one point and time in the author's story did something, but what?
What did Mario do? My mind was nothing but rushing thoughts at this point

And trust, it gets even MORE creepy! Here's the link to the story. (Warning: the site is not intended for younger people or easily scared people) http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/MARIO

So, is this just made to be creepy? Or is the author of this hack a real screwed up creep? I'll await your thoughts.

More to come.

People are naturally inclined towards digging into anything to try to find hidden meanings. Many such "conspiracies" are just forms of mild hysteria or outright hoaxes, but I'll give you the "Residents" of ShiverBurn Galaxy. We may never know how that got into the game, but sometimes developers just like to slip the odd Easter Egg into their game.

These are just old internet urban legends written by pop-culture junkies with too much time on their hands (like Quentin Tarantino). But the scariest one I've read is a creepypasta simply titled "Super Mario 64," or sometimes, "The Possessed Super Mario 64 Cartridge." None of it is real, and even if it were, they'd be highly isolated incidents that occur only in backwards areas, like the Deep South. It's all make-believe. Of course, my state, Pennsylvania, has its share of scary stories, between the demons we forged at the Pennhurst State School and the Prophecies of the so-called "Mothman"-- I dare you to try to get a night of peaceful sleep in PA.

Either that or you guys don't want to admitt these are real LOL. Anyway, it's been a while but I thought I'd at least check in this again. Also, you guys do know that SMW hack exists right? You just have to find it.

I was actually reading the Mario hack a few weeks ago, somehow I never saw this thread. I just watched the video and found it creepy. Whoever made that hack was probably just trying to mess with people, or actually killed somebody and made this as a confession.

I highly believe Luigi is hanging himself, I saw a youtube video proving it wrong, something with the camera angle and the lighting, but I'm sure Nintendo did it on purpose as that is the only time it happens. It's like watching a kids cartoon that has adult theme (like in Regular Show they pull a vhs out of a vcr and the timer hovers above the hand and the time just so happens to be 4:20).

They're just neat little easter eggs, the Mario Galaxy one is probably just aliens who live on that planet watching below them.

Thank god you didn't post the picture... ;D.

Well to be honest I'm sure Nintendo didn't want this game to get a rating higher than an E so they cleverly altered the angle to make it SEEM like a glitch and boom, secret easter egg planted.

It's like watching a kids cartoon that has adult theme (like in Regular Show they pull a vhs out of a vcr and the timer hovers above the hand and the time just so happens to be 4:20).

I don't get that refference with regular show please explain.

4:20 is slang for drug users, as its the time to do them. I think its a police code as well for a drug bust. I was just using that as an example since the kiddies who watch that wouldn't get the reference. Luigi hanging himself is obviously a more adult theme that the kids shouldn't see as well.

How about Daisy and her third eye? I've noticed that before the Cracked article, I found it when I firsy unlocked her trophy back in 01. I think the eye looks like Trainers eye, but I could be wrong.

The best story for a video game urban legend I think is definetly that abortion story for Earthbound(Mother2). Its just so sick and twisted. Nintendo obviously knows about the adult themes, such as Birdo actually being a transvestite. He wears a bo because he is confused about his sexuality, I believe it was explained in Doki Doki Panic or Nintendo themselves, of Japan that is. And the girl ghost in Paper Mario TYD, that's actually a man as well, I think his name is Vivian, they made him a man in the states, but in Jaypan, she is indeed a HE. They love these transgenders.

Since I don't have the sites on hand for references I'll look them up and post them. If I read wrong sorry for the mistake.

You're completely right on both counts. Birdo is indeed "confused" in Japan while Vivian is a male who identifies as female in the original Japanese. Strange how open-minded they are about these things considering how conservative a culture it is.

Japan I guess doesn't seem to have a problem about that stuff as much as the states. Just like all the adult stuff in Mother and Mother 2 (the japanese versions of the first two Earthbound games). I personally think Japan gives their children much more credit than we do ours and thinks they can handle stuff that's not allowed to be mentioned in American homes.

Oh please, you should Squidward's Suicide! :P

Besides, how do you think I found that Mario Hack Creepypasta? Also, let's be frank videogame creepypastas aren't that effective nowadays, especially the newer made ones which are just milking off the success of Ben Drowned. Occassionally you'll get a gem like Pokemon Black, or Ben Drowned but most of the video game pastas are just the same "found used game, it's very scary and demented, kept playing anyway, yaddy yaddy yadda".

I know "Squidward's Suicide" very well. And the trillion sequels and rip-offs that follow it. I'm an avid reader of internet urban legends, my favorite is Marble Hornets, but we're getting off topic. Let's let some people who don't know these scary stories read them and then see how they think of Mario after reading about demonic cartridges and possessed discs...
