Official "Super Mario 3D Land" Discussion
Anyone have a 3DS? Anyone get this game?
I do. I did.
It's fantastic. It's really, really good. As good as Galaxy 2, but maybe even better in other ways compared to its console counterpart.
The game is this really interesting blend between 2D and 3D Mario games. Not "2.5D" per se, but some of the levels are, some are more like the Mario 64 type of world layout.
But the powerups are absolutely great, the levels are timed, and there's even a dash button that actually makes sense within a 3D control scheme.
Anyways, I was just curious if anyone's picked this one up. This game has really proven to me that this has been the best "era" for Mario games since the NES/SNES days.

I do! I do!
And here's my review, if anyone cares.
(And it's just one more thing on a list of reasons I haven't gotten that article done-- don't worry, it's still on my mind! This week, I hope...)

This is so late, I haven't had internet in months. But this game is totally awesome. I have collected all star coins in every level. I read you have to have 5 stars to beat the game completely so I just need only one more. I hope they have the common sense to make mario 3D land 2. They could maybe bring back the frog suit, cape feather, and maybe new power ups.

I just hope you haven't had an assist block appear yet; I think if that happens, that fifth star is as good as gone...
...or is that the shine on the stars? I forget.

I think it's the assist block, yeah--the one that's a Tanooki suit with unlimited invincibility.

Me get an assist block? Pee-shaw. I beat the game entirely yesterday, I have a Crown20 or 30 some lives. I never needed any of those. The game is awesome as it gets, but way to short. Collecting star coins isn't as fun as it would be playing 10 levels in a world. But I understand its probably hard for them to create new levels, even though Nintendo has stated themselves tthat they are lazy.

Re: Official "Super Mario 3D Land" Discussion
So I just got this game yesterday for christmas along with a 3DS (Thanks mom and dad), and I must say this game is very much better than NSMB AND NSMBWii. I don't know why but this one feels more natural than those others in combining the gameplays of both the old and new generatuins of the series.
NSMB was good, hell, I'd call it great but it seemed more like the all-stars version of SMB. Just the same formula with different graphics (though NSMB had different levels). This one has new graphics and new gameplay but it still feels like the old games. I'd say 3D Land is the definitive 3DS game just like SMB3 was the definitive NES game.

Isn't this a little feminine?
Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.
But you wear this stuff?!
Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I may pick it up when I nab a 3Ds. But I gotta ask. Is it an original story? or a remake?
Re: Official "Super Mario 3D Land" Discussion
No it isn't. It's a completely new game that takes concepts from both 2D and 3D Mario games and turns them into something new.

Its an update of the original Super Mario Land.
It has nothing to do with SML. If anything its a sequel to SMB3 and SM64.

More like a midquel to those two games, to hear the developers tell it.

Its been about two months since I played so I busted the game and started playing my file. I dunno if anyone knows this but if you get 3 crowns for life, I think its 1010 or 2010 lives, Mario loses his hat as Super Mario but wears his hat when small. I thought this was neat as I haven't dug to deep into the losing gaining the hat situation.

Re: Official "Super Mario 3D Land" Discussion
I just got it like a couple weeks ago, and WOW I love it! It's got that appeal from the Galaxy series of the 3D platforming that I adore. I'm kind of glad too, because I recently tried picking up New Super Mario Bros Wii again, but I don't get into the 2D sidescrolling platforming as much as I do the 3D kind.
I was told that the max amount of lives you can have is 1,100, and that you get something special if you get that much, so I'm working on that while in the middle of the Special Worlds right now. I have over 300 lives, but only because I took my 3DS to Anime Expo and the amount of Streetpass tags I got were INSANE, so those bonus blocks were getting activated left and right. I still have some open Toad Houses I'm saving for when I finish a level with no power-ups.
And yeah, no assist blocks for me. XD; I've been seeing a trend in Nintendo games with "assists" in games with greater difficulty, but I'm a stubborn tool who would rather blow 50 lives than use one of those (true story in all the later levels of Donkey Kong Country Returns).

Nothing's impossible, Mario. Improbable, unlikely, but never impossible.

Read my post above. Its nothing too special when you get max llives. Just when Mario is Super he doesn't have a hat on, and when he's small he has his hat on.
