I don't see why this would be forbidden here, as it has to do with the games. Besides, I love hacks and mods, too. I just bought a copy of "Super Mario World" for the SNES and I have to beat that before playing any hacks, though. But hacks are always fascinating to watch and see how people tweak the games to fit their own needs and desires. I'm Serum and I approve this topic.

There is also another "Deluxe" hack out there, based on The Lost Levels. I've played both hacks and both are very good.
My 2 favorite hacks I've played are Mario Is Missing 2 and Super Mario World: Return to Dinosaur Land, both SNES hacks. Another hack I've played, this time an NES hack called Mario Adventure. It's a Mario Bros. 3 hack and very challenging.

You can discuss ROMs and emulation as much as you like and you can even link to hacks, but do not link to the ROMs or emulators themselves. It's a slippery slope when dealing with piracy and Nintendo, but it's easy enough to not cross that line.

The only hacks I've ever really played were for the Red/Blue and Gold/Silver versions of Pokémon. Those particular games were coded in a notoriously slipshod way, making hacking them extremely difficult and time-consuming. It's an art.

However, I do enjoy watching Super Mario hacks on Youtube whenever I see one. It's amazing the level of difficulty and ingenuity people have been able to insert into those games.

I've played a Super Mario Bros. hack that's actually Sonic the Hedgehog replacing Mario in the first game.

Back when Nesticle was popular, I think it was 99, I made so many sprite changes to SMB, a lot of them I can't remember, mosty changing brown to blue, or black. Swapping overall colors. I made movie versions of the sprites as well, just the bros over course, but never figured out how to save them. Needless to say even if I did they would be long gone no matter what.

I've done the same. It's fun going in and making changes where you can. That's really where some of the best and well-known hackers got their start. You'd be surprised to know the juvenile crap they turned out in the '90s compared to the pure art they do now.

The best one I played was the Legend of Zelda-based SMB1 hack which I have on one of my multi-game carts. It's a shame how the Mario-based Final Fantasy hack froze though, as I myself
adore Final Fantasy!
But those videos I've seen of Vega and M Bison on world 1-1 of SMB1 have certainly caught my eye, if there was a Street Fighter-based SMB1 hack with Vega as the player 1 character (perhaps his movie actor Jay Tavare could be player 2!

) then I would certainly give it a shot - and that goes double if someone can make it with Balrog (AKA Fungus Mouth) as the final boss!
