Wario

And that's all you need to know about one of Mario's greatest rivals. Yes, I'd be lying if I said Wario is not a gimmick, but by the Stars of Star Heaven I LOVE this character! Not only is he a likeable jerk, but unlike Waluigi Wario actually has a personality that wasn't stolen by any other Mario character.

In ways, he IS Mario's opposite. He's greedy, selfish, is only motivated by things he likes, is a coniver, a con artist, and since his name includes the word WAR, we can assume he's very violent. Also, again unlike Waluigi, Wario has had his own series of videogames, which are very fun,.

Overall, Waluigi sucks, stick to the original jerk! :P

Wario is the fun villain, he's fat, stinky, has a cockroach in his brain and loves to chow on them garlic cloves. Wario is awesome!

Wario is a great character, though sorely degraded through his appearances in the WarioWare series. I enjoyed him best as a greedy little elf living in the woods with his gold, only venturing out into the world once his cache is threatened.

I totally disregard the WarioWare series, It's just another Nintendo cash in ploy. I don't see why Nintendo has to make lame spinoff's of it's popular characters. You don't see a Zelda Sports mix or GanonWare.

Wario should stay as the Rugged Adventure hero looking out for only himself and grabbing the gold.

I like Wario just fine, I just don't care all that much for his name. This sporadic "W" for "M" stuff baffles me, but in the 90s, it made sense back then.

If I had named the character I would have dubbed him with one of the following names...

Marky the Miser
Greedy Greg
Gold-Coin Grommet
Eb Len Scroggie * (see details below)
Alex Avarice
Woody Want
Fat Cat Franklin

...Because they all relate to Wario's greed and love gold. I think making Wario a completely independent character who happens to follow Mario and Company around would have been a better decision.

* You're probably wondering about the name "Eb Len Scroggie," right? Well, Wario is a man who loves his gold and is something of a hermit, right? And I'm sure you all know the story of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," but Dickens got the idea for the character of Ebenezer Scrooge when walking through a cemetery one Christmas Eve when he came upon a grave in the fading day light that read "Ebenezer Lennox Scroggie: He was a meal-man," meaning he was a chef. But due to the dim light and the fact that it was snowing, Dickens thought it said "Ebenezer Scrooge was a mean man." Thus giving birth to the best Christmas story of all time.

Any of those names would have been an excellent choice... If Wario were a 1930s cartoon character, when alliterative names were all the rage. :P

I also would have given Fat Cat Franklin (As I will refer to Wario in this thread from now on.) a thick Egyptian-style goatee and bushy sideburns and a mullet instead of a similar mustache to Mario, and dressed him in jeans, a t-shirt with a frowny face and suspenders instead of overalls, no hat and heavy boots like the movie's stompers. He would also be covered in tattoos. And okay, maybe a backwards baseball cap on his head...

Um, but that would be betraying the intent of Wario. He was supposed to be the opposite of Mario, hence his name Wario. I find the clothes changes you offer a bit much, it's as if your butchering the character.

Agreed, Wario is Mario's Rival, if you make him Fat Cat pizza nobody will know who he is or care about him anymore.

A rival is not a carbon copy. Fat Cat Franklin is more of an original character than a Mario character, now, what with the WarioWare series. He doesn't even really wear the purple and gold anymore. Now he sort of dresses like a female drag queen. Which is fine, if you're into that sort of thing.

First of all, what is Wario a carbon copy of? Sure he looks like Mario but that's the point! He's supposed to be Mario's opposite, so it makes sense for him to look and dress like Mario.

Second of all, your wrong about him not wearing the purple or gold! He wears it in all the Mario games, he wore it in the Wario Land series, he's worn it in Wario World, he's even worn it in Smash Brothers Brawl as a bonus suit complete with it's own set of colors! The ONLY time he's worn something else was in Smash Bros and Wario Ware.

Third of all, if your talking about the biker outfit when you mention that female drag dress, then I am dissapointed. Surely you would know the difference. Or maybe I'm wrong, maybe you are talking about a different suit, if that's true then which suit are talking about?

I don't like that direction myself, but it's really not that bad. They're just trying to keep the character relevant even if people only ever wanted him to be Mario's contrast.
