Stanley the Bugman
We all know that Mario and Luigi are brothers, and that Wario is their rival. But how many of you know of Stanley the Bugman? Stanley is Mario's cousin, and he's an exterminator from one of the early Game and Watch games.
He only appeared in a few Game and Watch games and in an early variant of "Mario Tennis" where he was a referee. He looks similar to Mario, but wears no hat, no mustache and has white overalls and a blue shirt.
Does anyone have any input about Mario and Luigi's cousin, who has been absent from the game-scene for several years, now? Whatever happened to Stanley Mario? (Assuming his last name is Mario, and that he's a cousin on Mario's paternal side.)

What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

...this is the first time I ever heard of him being Mario's cousin, to be honest. Where did that come from?

Nope, I read it in an old issue of Nintendo Power.
I also have a wild theory that Mister Game and Watch is Mario and Luigi's father. But, as Toad would say: "It's just my theory."

After a bit of research the only citation I've been able to find is a dead character profile on Nintendo Land, though I wouldn't doubt that Nintendo Power made the same claim initially.
Stanley has always fascinated me as a character. There's not much to be said about him, but I would just love to see how he would fit into the Mario universe. I think it would have been really cool to see a Stanley truck on the film or even as much as a sequence of an exterminator being sent down into the sewers to combat strange pests.

Funny you should say that Redstar because, I'm actually planning on including Stanley as a character in the Sequel of my fan-film I am writing.
Basically in my universe, Stanley and Mario were best friends growing up but they stopped being friends for some reason *still thinking about that one* but about 4 to 5 years later Mario builds up enough confidence with a little help from the princess, and seeks out his best friend.... *why? IT'S A SECRET*
Luigi...mess this up, and I'll be an only child.

Here you go.
I do so very much wish they would release this on DVD already, so I can add it to my collection...
...Pac-Man, too.
Actually, I thought I read something about that happening last year. Wonder what ever became of it...

Does anyone else find it a little disconcerting that Mario's cousin Stanley isn't mentioned in many games? Also, Stanley is blonde, Mario has dark brown hair, so I'm starting to think he might be a distant cousin.

I have dark brown hair and my cousin has blonde hair. Hair color shouldn't decide a factor in distance or closeness in family.

Before this moment I never realized that an adaptation for Super Mario Bros. existed prior to the Super Show. That's crazy.

I wouldn't say "Super Mario Bros.", exactly...

Cullen's take on Mario really is just fun. The Supercade feels right at home with late '60s-era cartoons like the Wacky Races. That makes it fitting that Mario and Pauline drive around in a "Mystery Machine," just as superwesleybros so aptly pointed out himself.

Too bad Mario Bros. wasn't released yet. I wonder how Luigi would have been on this show.

Yeah, that's all great what with the guy from Transformers voicing Mario and whatever, but this is a topic about Stanley the Bugman, so can we please try to talk about Stanley the Bugman and his relationship to Mario? You're all going off the deep end about the original voice of Mario, seriously-- stop talking about Cullen, start talking about Stanley. Less Peter Cullen, no, NO Peter Cullen, more Stanley.

Stanley is a real overlooked opportunity for a new game, I'd like a platformer adventure like SM64 and DK64 starring Stanley.

Thank you. Yes, a new game starring Mario's overlooked cousin would be interesting. It might be a sort of "run and shoot" game, since he's got that extermination device in his hands, and different bugs of the Mushroom Kingdom could be his enemies.

Maybe have him visit classic locations like, Peach's Castle, Isle Delfino, and maybe THE REAL WORLD!!!

I think Mario's been living (in the current games canon) in the Mushroom Kingdom so long he's completely forgotten about Brooklyn, Pauline and Donkey Kong.

Well since it would be about Stanley, at least a cartoony real world with interactive human characters would be nice.

^His Smash Bros. trophy.
I think an arcade-style shooter or even a mid-'90s-style platformer would be really fun for the character.

Brooklyn, maybe, but Pauline and DK are still appearing in games with him left, right, and center.

Indeed. Pauline made appearances in the recent Mario vs. Donkey Kong series for the Nintendo DS. The manual for said games state that she is merely good friends with Mario.

Well some time between 81 and 83 They suggested to Just be friends.
I think a Pitfall Harry style game would be perfect for Stanley.
