Super Mario Universe

I'm not sure if this goes here, as it's not a real Mario game, just a fan's idea. I've voiced my cynicism towards the current Mario games before, and I got to talking with a friend of mine on what we think ought to come next. The name "Super Mario Universe" has been tossed around the web as a fan-rumored sequel to the Galaxy series. I've even seen some impressive fan-ideas about a story that takes place in the future, revolving around Mario's son. (but let's be serious, Mario isn't getting any further with Peach than a kiss or a pastry for the foreseeable future.)

Any ways, my idea. Does anyone remember Mario's Time Machine? The educational game that had Mario visit different time periods, learning about history. Or M+L Partners in Time? Another Mario time-jumper. Well maybe since Mario has already conquered a land, a world, a galaxy, and beyond, perhaps it's time (c wut i did thar?) he busted out the old Time Machine.

Plot: Bowser (who else?) and the koopalings use a time machine to kidnap Peach from the past, in order to change the present. That isn't enough though. Bowser goes into all the major eras of the past to change history and make himself the indisputable ruler of the world. So Mario must tail Bowser through the ages, undoing the damage he's done to the timeline. Worlds could include: the modern era, the stone age, the ancient world (ancient greece themed possibly.) medieval times, the industrial era, pre-history (could be interpreted as a lost, super-advanced civilization like Atlantis or something) The beginning of time, concluding with the end of time (In which Mario would face a gauntlet of fully grown koopalings before fighting a team of Giant Bowser and the adult Bowser junior.)

I dunno, it's not totally fleshed out, but what do you guys think should happen in Mario's future?

I've always been a fan of time travel stories if they're done well and did enjoy Mario's Time Machine, so this concept could be fun. It's perhaps to story-involved for a main series game, but you never know.

Oh, i don't think it would have to be very story involved. It's still the same "Mario save the Princess" plot, but with time travel instead of space.

I would like a Mario game kind of like he idea hey had with Sonic Legends. Mario meets his older self kind of thing. I really like your idea of time travel. Just as long as it's not Mario's Time Machine. When I play Mario games I want to have fun, not to learn things. They could call it Mario's Time Machine 2: Forget the first one, this is the real deal.
