What's your LEAST favorite Mario game?

Well, all of them are fantastic in their own way. Just some people don't prefer one Mario game over the others. A common one people tend to not care for is Super Mario Sunshine, due to it's strange tone, & different style of platforming from the regular Mario-standards. Which ones do you particularly don't care for?

Mine would probably be Super Mario World. To me, it was a little bland compared to the great SMB3 that came before, and didn't meet the expectations of the big SNES sequel to the 3rd game.

I almost sort of agree. While I grew up with Super Mario World first and hold much nostalgia for it and many of its levels it simply hasn't aged with me as well. I've come to appreciate Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 much more.

While I wouldn't say that I dislike Super Mario World, I just don't enjoy it as much as the others.

I don't either. I just found it was lacking something the original trilogy had.

I kinda feel the same with Galaxy 2. The first one was groundbreaking, but, the second one did what World did. It updated the mechanics, and added Yoshi. While it's good, it just lacked the charm & atmosphere the first one had.

I would have to say Lost Levels, it's just the exact same game engine and way to hard. I never understood why fans hate SMB2USA, different is good. I'd have to also say those games that were released between SMW, and SM64. When Nintendo was basicly letting developers screw over their franchise.

I don't know why Nintendo wouldn't just make more SMB games themselves. I'm glad we are at where we are now that Nintendo realises SM is their cash cow, and just started pumping out new games a lot.

Mario USA was great. It was just a painted-over version of Doki Doki Panic, but it helped shape the Mario series with it's eneimes & settings. Mario Lost Levels was way too hard, and I'm glad we didn't get it in it's original release here.

Lol, like Mario's Game Gallery? I own that game. "Imma Go First!" XD

But in that strange period of Mario games, we got Super Mario Land 2. That was definitely worth it, with the first appearance of Wario! Waha!

My least favorite Mario game, without a doubt...is Super Paper Mario. I've mentioned the large number of reasons why in other threads, but yeah--I hate that game.

In terms of a Mario game I own that I've played the least of--it's definitely the Lost Levels. I have SMB All Stars, SMB Deluxe, and the Wii All Stars re-release--but every time I start that game I get a couple of levels in until I give up because it's so hard.

I really agree with you on that one, they had a good idea but a bad game.

Wow. Someone else who hates Super Paper Mario! Everyone adores that game. I probably hate it for the same reasons as you, so no need to even explain what's wrong with the game. Looks like Sticker Star is gonna make up for that disappointment.

Mario Party 3, because it took the gameplay of the first two games and completely threw it in the garbage. I liked Mario Party 4, though... But the first two in the series are the best.

Despite my extreme disappointment with Super Paper Mario, I'm definitely willing to give Sticker Star a shot. I'm such a sucker for good 3DS content right now. Interestingly, This is the first portable entry in the series...I wonder if it will take the place of the "Mario & Luigi" games.

Sunshine. And while I didn't care for some of the differences back when we were only getting one mainline Mario game per generation, that's not my issue with it.

Rather than repeat myself here, I invite you to check this out. I think that covers most of my main issues.

(I also wish they didn't pitch the voices higher.)

I can't believe Super Mario World has been represented so heavily as the worst in this thread! Crazy! The worst was Super Mario Sunshine. Because of that game I've never been able to bring myself to play another Super Mario game since.

I understand the hate toward SMS but I still find it enjoyable. Not the best though. It's still the only Mario game I never collected all the stars for. There's too many hidden blue coins, mini levels, and mini levels without the FLUDD. They just made it too insane with collecting blue coins.

That's part of the reason why I love the game so much. In retrospect, Super Mario 64 wasn't that difficult, nor that secretive of a game. Sunshine offered a lot more in terms of difficulty and replayability.

While I enjoyed Super Mario 64, it didn't truly feel like a Mario game to me until I played the DS remake.

And I've really got to give Super Mario Sunshine another shot. It's strange and quirky and sometimes doesn't fit the Mario gameplay in a traditional sense--but sometimes it feels like it fits perfectly. I feel the same way about Super Mario Bros. 2 :)

I love Super Mario 64 DS. I wish they'd remake that for the... well, I guess the Wii U now, and add in some more Stars.
