Re: Thought : "Cold Blooded" Super Mario
Well, he repeatedly drops Koopa into a pit of lava after swiping an axe from behind his back. Then he swings the guy around by his tail and slams him into explosive spiked bombs that incapacitate him. He drops every one of Koopa's children into lava, continuously damages the guy's property and personal effects and is probably behind the death of the enigmatic Queen Koopa. If that's not cold blooded, I don't know what is.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Re: Thought : "Cold Blooded" Super Mario
I believe that Mario is an Anti-Hero, maybe a type 3. While he may be a good person at heart and does want to rescue the Princess, he seems to enjoy beating the living shit out of Goombas and Koopas a bit too much. I mean yeah in games like Super Mario 3D Land and the RPG games the goombas are actually running at you and show intentions on hurting you but in most Mario games, they're just walking around enjoying life, then Mario comes and kills 'em. Hell, they may not even be evil, they just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And let's not delve on the fact that he kills his enemies, no let's just look at HOW he kills them! He freezes them, stomps them, fries them, hits them with hammers, hits them with their shells, hits them with boomerangs, and much more!
Plus he also kills Piranha Plants just so he could use the warp pipes they're in. Sure, they try to attack him but does that automatically make them evil? What if they're just territorial creatures that attack when people get too close?
Yeah, Mario isn't squeaky clean perfect. And you wanna know the final piece of evidence that proves that Mario is a bastard? Listen to his voice clips in the games and look at his face. It's always happy. He always sounds energetic and happy even when he's fighting off these bad guys. I do't think he EVER felt sorry for killing an enemy, it was never shown shown anyway. It's like he's enjoying what he's doing!
Ad that's the proof that Mario is indeed cold blooded if not a low key sociopath. While he may have a good heart, he still enjoys killing Goombas, Koopas, and what not. That may be why he doesn't show anger or annoyance if the princess keeps getting captured. It means he can kill all those minions along the way and killing them is the only he can release his true nature without getting in trouble!

It's funny, in the original instruction booklet for SMB, it says that Bowser turned all the mushroom civilians into brick, goombas, pirahna plants, etc. So basically Mario is killing all of the mushroom people.
It's also though never said that the bad guys mario as we say "kills", are officially dead. Sure they don't come back, but they could just be beaten up badly and thrown out of the picture. Like stomping a Goomba could be like in cartoons when someone wearing a hat gets hit with a hammer and is only feet and a hat. They aren't dead, they are just beat up. Same with Bowser, he doesn't officially die, he's suffered way worst. In the new games he is thrown in lava and is seen at the end in the credits. Or in the original, he falls in lava, came back in SMB2J, and SMB3-to now. These characters don't die.

Considering how different creatures and items in the Mario universe simply respawn I like to think that the enemies he defeats do so as well and he realizes this.

Yeah, I once wrote a "novelization" of the first game, and had to figure out how to have Mario stomp his way through swarms of enemies without turning him into a psyco killer. Something you're just meant to overlook while playing, I guess. Like why Pac-Man never gains weight.

I've always thought that was because Pac Man is also a ghost but he just doesn't know it, yet.
