I enjoy references to different adaptations. It's good to take your own spin on things, but it's still fun to have those references in there. :)

Yes, my goal for this movie is to combine elements of the cartoons with the 1991 script and create a new tapestry that is original and unique but still fun.

*UPDATE JAN 9th*

While on my Lunch break I went to the Hobby Lobby near my campus and I bought some giant mushrooms and a fake fire hydrant.

also, My dad hooked me up with some filming time at his work. So I'll get to re-work my opening to be set in a big pipe filled establishment.

I have spoken.

Dude, if you could have a mushroom-filled pipe as a set location then you'd automatically bring the quality of this project up ten-fold. I seriously hope the costumes and actors are good fits. Keep us posted!

Well what I can tell you now is that....

My Mario Costume and my friends Luigi costume is top notch. (Bitterleaf's costume will be a modified Thor costume.) and (Popple's costume will be a purple and grey striped hoodie)

My current actors are good, My friend playing Luigi does a perfect Luigi, he's got that cowardly type attitude from the Super Show and Games. (In the movie he will wear glasses, because he doesn't have contacts...hope that doesn't tick you guys off. lol) My actor playing Prince Bitterleaf is great too, he was in a drama club so he's got good acting experience. and I shall be playing Mario, I can do both the Walker Boone Mario Voice and the Charles Martinet voice. I'll be doing the former. I'm still in the process of casting my other characters but I'll have an update on casting soon.

Parts cast:
Mario
Luigi
Prince Bitterleaf
Fawful

Parts still in need of casting.
Toad
Popple
Princess Peach
Queen Bean
and Pauline

(NOTE)
I have removed from the story.
Scapelli Brothers. (I really just added them for reference to the Name scapelli)
Bonnie (Originally a love interest for Luigi)
Toadsworth (Just someone to spout off useless exposition about Mario and Luigi's dad being the last Hero of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Trivia:
Prince Bitterleaf was originally called Prince Rascal and wasn't going to be from the Beanbean Kingdom.
Fawful and Popple were going to be called Sprout and Hurley
when thinking about possible villains I considered O Chunks from Super Paper Mario
the movie was originally called Mario & Luigi The legend begins.
and the original opening was going to be Mario saving Pauline from Donkey Kong....

Yes! A lot.

*Note* This update isn't as big as I was hoping because I was snowed in my own home so, I've decided to show off props used in the movie.

The Powerups of SMB:

Here we have the bare essentials of the Mario Universe. These props were all bought but it was easy enough to obtain cheaply.

Mushroom Capsules: instead of the Mario Bros. eating the Mushroom's to gain there ability, they must open the capsule and absorb the power to utilize the power. Each mushroom has a unique power. (The Red Mushroom, Grants Increased strength and endurance.) (The Green Mushroom, Surrounds you with a protective shield that will only last until you get hit.) and (The Blue Mushroom, Shrinks you to about 5 inches tall.)

Super Feather: These magical feathers provide the holder with a magic cape granting them flight.

Bob-Omb...see below.

Coins: Currency of the Mushroom Kingdom and easy to obtain.

Special Equipment:

The Magic Wand is a legendary tool used in the Mushroom Kingdom for generations, however when the war between the Mushroom and Beanbean Kingdom ended, all magical weapons were banned and locked away in various caves and dungeons. Only Kings and Queens of various Kingdoms are allowed to carry a wand for their personal protection.

This is my update, I will be getting a Camera either Today or Monday. I was hoping to get some Pictures of Me and my friend as Mario and Luigi but snow has been bad and I wasn't able to meet up with him. So hopefully my prop show will entice you.

I'll have more prop pics in another post, I can only post 3 pics at a time.

*UPDATE* Got my new HD video camera, I'll be ready for filming very soon. Hopefully I'll have a small trailer by the end of March.

1upmushroom wrote:I will admit the bit with the Mushroom is really clever! :D

Yeah I was going for a unique realistic approach.

Bob-Omb MK-2:

The Bob-Omb is a small hand-held grenade like device that was used by Koopa Forces during the Koopa King's last kidnapping attempt but was quickly thwarted by the Legendary Father of the Mario Bros.

Heroic Fashion:

Mario and Luigi are old fashion guys. they wear simple clothes and have a thing for certain colors. Mario wears a Gatsby cap that features a snap on function. when unsnapped, he is Super Mario. Luigi wears a basic green cap with a neat little cotton twill on the front.

Next-Gen Storage (Work In Progress.)

Small, Compact and Light-weight. [:?:] or ? Block contain various things from...coins, powerups and even traps such as King Bob-Ombs. they open and close simply enough. They Are reusable.

Mushroom Madness:

See what I did there? anyway...The mushroom kingdom is populated with these massive toadstools, some are even big enough to build a house in.

Here is the rest.

Great props and costumes, mates. They may be bought, but they seem quality enough. As long as their utilized well I'm sure they'll be effective in the film. I'd still take care to not show them more than necessary and definitely not very closely, otherwise people will for sure recognize them as store-bought and that would ruin suspension-of-disbelief.

I'm also working on some of my own props, but there not done yet and look very real. (even close up.)

Since I got my new camera and stuff I'm very excited to start filming very soon.

*EDIT*

Consider this a Promotional Pic.

Mario in a casual outfit. Notice I have a pallet swapped version of Bob Hoskins' jacket.

Very nice. Your Mario looks like a fun guy. I hope we see him mostly outside of the iconic overalls/jumpsuit and more in your "casual" outfit. :P

Otherwise it's clearly epic. Glad you got a new picture for Luigi. :D

*Updates*

I've decided to give my script a second go, It's not a major re-write but I'm fixing some things that can be better.

Also, I'm going to restrict myself to posting here once a week for updates, since filming won't start until early march.

If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to ask away.

finally, No pics yet but I'm going to have a sample of the music that will be heard in the movie. (I'm rearranging old classics for the best effect.)

I saw you ask me on youtube if you could use the Mario Bros Kitchen Madness sketch I animated into a live action bit. Go for it, I ripped it right out of the old comic books so I didn't technicly write it. If that wasn't you I apologise. I figured it was hou because it was the same icon you have on here.

Lol, yeah that was me. I liked the kitchen madness sketch so I wanted to add it to my fan-film for a good comedy scene. That will probably be the first scene I film. :D

Rewrites can be good and have been known to focus a project, but overall you need a strong vision of where you're going. Stick to that and make the story itself secondary.

I have the vision but there are a few key scenes that feel rushed and I want to make them stronger and feel more realistic. plus I have to change how the Mario Bros enter the mushroom kingdom since I have a new location to film at.

Here is a new poster, I got bored and wanted to do a new style.

That's cool I would like to see it adapted to live action, but is your Mario not going support his traditional mustache? That's sad if he isn't. His hat and stache are his trademarks.

I've been growing a mustache since early October, I might have to darken it up with black eyeliner if I have to lol. and as for the hats, I was going to use the (M) and (L) caps seen at costume stores at halloween but they looked way too big on mine and my friends head so I decide to get hats like the ones worn in the SMB 1993 movie. a red Gatsby cap and Green Baseball cap.

The overall way we'll look in the movie is inspired off of this image.

Oh cool I thought you were gonna make Mario without a stache. The hats are cool, I always preferred the realastic hats from the movie rather than the ones with the M and L on them. Especially for a live action Mario.

If you look real closely at the posters I've posted in my fan-film topic you can see it.

I have been but in my family facial hair takes incredibly long to grow. the lighting in that image doesn't show it off well but it's pretty dark now.

Dye it black. It doesn't look bad as thin as it is, but darkening it should help.

Not much of an update for you, filming is getting close to starting and here is somewhat of a new promo pic for you.

Me as Mario and my best friend who is playing Prince Bitterleaf...but also plays Stanley the Bugman in my universe.

Image

This is a pic for a fake yearbook I'm making for a possible Sequel to this movie. here's a small blurb about it.

Mario Mario and Stanley Hofstadter were best friends until an argument destroyed their friendship. Five years later after Mario save the mushroom kingdom and slayed the evil Koopa King, Mario got into a similar argument with his brother Luigi. Luigi ran away and disappeared. With help from Princess Peach, Mario gained the confidence to rekindle his friendship with his best friend Stanley and go on a mission to rescue Luigi from the evil Dimento.

I seem to have to share this advice often: don't plan sequels or future projects until you're finished with what you're working on now. :)

I usually plan things way ahead lol. Honestly, that pic was just when me and my friends clown around at college. But the idea is also part of Mario's back story. I just used a pic to add some depth to the idea. if you think this is much, I'm in the process of writing an 7 part action film series. XD These were just some concepts I came up with when writing this one. It's not that I'm planning a sequel, it's more of an idea I wanted to share. :)

Sharing is always fun, but you need to keep yourself focused. The two greatest problems facing most potential, unrealized writers are procrastination and over-planning. What matters most is doing. You're fully capable of doing, so show us. Stand out and make something great. :)

Sadly with lack of motivation, cooperation and actors. this movie hasn't gotten anywhere. but there could be something to come out of this in the future.

Sorry for getting all of your hopes up, I wanted to make this too. I've just been so busy with college and stuff it's hard to get some free time anymore. :|

For those of you wondering, this project isn't dead in the ground, though I decided to rethink my goals and start over. I haven't begun writing anything new yet but I do have a solid Idea. Instead of a feature length film. I want to break it down into short webisodes that follow a single narrative.

Introduction.

The Mario Bros.

Destiny brings the Bros to the unknown.

The rest will come in the future.
