Super Mario Bros. 2 UPDATE 1/17/14

Postby ultimateemail5000 » Mon Sep 30, 2013 5:39 pm

Well it is finally happening, if anyone saw that picture of the stack of papers. it's every single drawing for the upcoming Super Mario Bros 2. cartoon. It is completely drawn, I am in the process of inking now. Just finished the first scene actually and have a few images to share.

First off, an unnecessary creepy close up of Mario in an intense scene

Image

and a still of the first scene

Image

I started this in August the week before Mario and Luigi Dream Team came out. I was doodling things and then though, hey, I'll just animate Mario 2. So thus it began, and it's been the toughest animation I've done. Rather than having still images with moving mouths, I actually drew the mouth movements with each frame including movement. So doing this new which I call the "Disney" style, of animation, was very tough, and so far though it is looking amazing.

I have also got in contact with JamesXextreme. If nobody knows who they are, this guy does really good Mario voices for audio comic fan dubs of the original Mario Adventures and Nintendo Comics by Valiant. They are really talented people and they are on board to dub this cartoon. I will not be lending my voice this time around, I'd rather let these guys do it cause they are amazing.

I will update when each scene is done, followed by a still image. Until next time.

10/19/13
Just to let everybody know, everything has been inked and all main drawings are complete. I have put together a lot of it in a rough cut form, without sound, and will be scanning this last stack of drawings soon to finish the rest. After that backgrounds. I had to take a week off due to the fact I was so broke I couldn't even afford to buy a new pen, so thankfully today I got paid bought a new pen, and inked the rest of the drawings.

11/6/13
A rough cut has been complete it's looking good. I will have a title screen to show soon. A few scenes need to be drawn, or added animation. I'll be getting a new computer soon so once I have that and a new wacom, inking and backgrounds will be coming faster. Also SMB REMASTERED has been finished and will be getting sound shortly.

I'm very happy about this! Super Mario Bros. 2 is my favorite of the original series, in large part due to its unique atmosphere and creatures. I think you can tap into a huge amount of nostalgia but utilizing the right enemies and locale. :)

I love SMB2 as well. After watching your previous short I think you can really do the game justice.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. I didn't want to announce anything to early but I just couldn't stop drawing. I thought it the right time would have been when I knew everything with my laptop would be back on track. You guys will be in for a real treat.

I will be updating stuff on my tumblr for this project and other things as well. So be sure to check it out at http://chadkyer.tumblr.com/ Also before I go to bed here I was taking a break and thought I'd draw a cover art for the script and here it is.

This is looking like it could turn into a really good project. The fact that you're working with a talented group of voice actors should solidify its popularity. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Thank you. I'm thinking I'm gonna get a new screenshot in maybe by next week. The second scene is almost fully inked just a few frames to go. It's nice now I feel like I can pace myself now since everything is drawn.

Nice update here, just to let everyone know I am now inking scene 4. Only 2 more scenes to go and it will be time for post. Though I have put together a few scenes already they are missing backgrounds and not colored yet. But I have a few symbols (flash terms they are basically sprites) to share with everyone.

First the realastic Mario re-do. I was very happy with my first one but I thought it was too realastic and over the top creepy, or uncomfortable. So I re-drew the panel from Mario Adventures and sort of tweaked it a bit to be more Lou Albano style but not by much. Honestly I don't know which one is creepier.

Sorry, but I completely forgot to comment on the trailer when you posted it!

It looks pretty good. The voice work is top notch and the animation looks like it'll have some good action once it's completed.

Thank you, James' voice acting is really a hit. I enjoy it, he brings more life to the character than I could. He also has re-dubbed the first sketch which is so close to being finished.

The first full colored scene with a background, there's a few others the backgrounds and sound effects is all that is left everyone. So expect a big update soon. This is taking a while because I want everything to be perfect.

Yes! Birdo! I love the character, and it seems even Nintendo has a soft spot considering she's one of only a few characters from SMB2 to have return appearances in the franchise.

I hope you do her justice! Make the battle epic, with lots of egg-throwing on both ends. :)

With the right voice actress Birdo could really stand out.

I am actually sticking to the myth of Birdo being a boy who thinks he's a girl. So the goal is to sound close to the GBA version. It's even including the "this is far as you go!" Line. and Believe me, there will be tons of egg throwing. I really liked the battle for two reasons, it was hard to animate but I did it, and the I didn't have to edit much of it after adding the sound because timing was perfect.

It most definitely was. The whole story was ripped from the comics and re-written.

Just about done with the cartoon, thought I wouldn't finish it but because of some new things going on with my youtube channel, I decided it was time to finish up Mario 2. To hold the wait over here's a quick trailer 2 that's actually a scene from the new cartoon. I'm working on backgrounds now and will be fixing some scenes up in post.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 UPDATE 1/16/15

Postby ultimateemail5000 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:00 am

Wow tomorrow would be a year since I updated, and no that's not coincidental. So here's the low down on my SMB2.

The original thing I animated was such a mess, when put together, it was horrible. Then I re-read the comic I based it off of, and realized how horrible that comic really is. The story doesn't do anything. So I scrapped it.
I have a full length rough cut saved privately on my youtube channel, that I will unleash once I get what I like to call "New Super Mario Bros 2" done.

The story is written, it has nothing to do with Wart, or anything that SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic) had, I'd say if anything this would be more like a Lost Levels type, where Peach is only actually kidnapped this time and it's up to Mario, Luigi, and Toad to save her. Now it's hard to cram all this stuff into a 5 minute cartoon, so it has to move really fast pace. This is also actually really influenced by the Super Show. I wrote it as if it were an actual episode, only it will not suck. Mario is the happy go lucky pasta lovin guy, Luigi is the nervous scared one, and nobody still likes Toad. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with voices yet, I dunno if Mario will sound more Italian, or if I will ask Jamesman to voice Mario again. Who knows where that is gonna go.

Now something I am really excited to announce, the look of the cartoon. This was also a very big disappointment with me and the original Part 2. When I was making the original I stopped and started work on remastering my original SMB cartoon. Which took some time, and now the new one has complete new character model sheets that will blow everyone's minds away.

Image

This will be even closer to character designs than what SMBR had. And yes, I am bringing the King into this story. One of the characters I felt that could have came back for a tad bit of comedic relief, since I am not really a fan of Toadsworth... infact, where has Toadsworth been the past 10 years?

Anyways, a new story, the original was scrapped, I'm working on Ung-Tar and finishing lip flaps, and once my girlfriend returns home she will voice a character and that will be done, and I will begin to work on NSMB2, and a very very short Zelda sketch.

Paper Mario

Postby ultimateemail5000 » Mon Feb 09, 2015 1:17 am

I have decided to scrap the entire traditional animation style for the new Mario cartoon and have decided to do something different. I present everyone to a sample of the new Mario cartoon style. Paper Mario.

Image

As you know, Paper Mario can twist, roll into a tube, transform into a airplane... well he won't be doing that in this cartoon. This will act just as a sequel to my first cartoon but now with a new art style. I hope you all can enjoy it.

Please push through with this style... It'd be great to see some Paper Mario-style stories.

I am gonna use the hell out of this style you honestly have no idea. What actually convinced me to go this way was just the fact it's fast pace, and it won't require a thousand drawings...just a bunch of frames. I have way more characters made up and I actually finished Peach's castle last night.

My whole idea is to make this look like a pop up book. I am thinking of doing page turns, narrator descbring the story, everything. I want it o have a magical feel to it.

This is an AWESOME idea! Seems very novel...I don't think I've seen anyone try doing this before. I've always liked Bowser's look in that style. He looks like such an idiot. :)

That's one of the reasonings with the Paper Mario style, the fact I don't think anyone's done it yet, and it'd be easier to animate in a South Park style.

Since I'm feeling nice, I will share to you all the abandoned Super Mario Bros 2 short I was going to release, and after viewing, you all may see why I ditched the project.

What in the world did I just watch? For some reason it felt a lot like Homestar Runner; not that it's a bad thing. I happen to like Homestar Runner.
Koopa from the darkest wilds, makes you feel just like a...baby?
Jumario, more than a game.

You watched utter crap. It's such a shame too, becuase I had this big idea that worked so well in my head and when it was done, it was just garbage. So I remastered the first cartoon and had the same voice cast re-dub it, and went from there. I have been plotting a year for a good story worthy of a sequel to my first cartoon.

I can't believe I am saying this. But I was transfering my downloads file to my new hard drive, and when itw as done I went to clear and emptied the recycle bin. Little did I realize that I had actually erased my documents folder which I save everything there. i actually transfered everything BUT my New Super Mario Bros 2 and Paper Mario designs. So it's back to starting from scratch. I'm just so happy I backed everything up days ago.
