A script has been written for SMB2(USA), I have ideas for Lost Levels, and SMB3. Just have to finish part 1 first. If this is done it would take atleast 5 years probably hahahaha.
That's a great idea. I always loved the "art gallery" feel to the All Stars menu. Something along those lines would be a cool throwback to see in your animation.

A new update, a very odd one. Just got done talking to a friend of mine who could pull off a live action Mario, and I jokingly said we should make a live action Mario sketch like the SMBSS, and he sounds down for it. I dunno if this will happen, but if it does, it will start before the cartoon and end after the cartoon.

I think you should make every effort to make that a reality.

I grew a mustache as a joke and my girl ended up liking it, so I keep letting it grow. My friend who is hardcore Italian can grow a moustache like Marios probably in no time.
Also last I mixed a ton of voices in the cartoon, with some scenes still missing, and its running out to 4 minutes so far. Hopefully I can drag it out a little to get that 5 minute solid mark, and 5 minutes of a live action sketch. More updates to come.

My girl enjoys facial hair as well. It can be nice not having to clean up every day and still get your chin stroked.
Sounds good. Five minutes of a live-action sketch seems like it could be a long time compared to the duration of the actual cartoon, but I'm sure you can tell the segment's story well enough we'll enjoy every minute.

While we're on the subject, yours truly sports a pretty suave goatee.
Also, I love the idea of bookending the animation with a live-action segment. That would really make the whole project seem complete.

I was thinking of having 2 minutes of the sketch, cut to the cartoon, somewhere in the middle of the cartoon, maybe when Bowser shows it plays deadly music and fades back to the live action Mario sketch, the bros do something whacky for a minute and then say something like "Now the final scenes from the Super Mario Bros cartoon!" cut back to the cartoon and finish it, along with the live action sketch after.
It's so much work though, I might not do both. I wouldn't get hopes too high, on the live action sketch though just to let you guys know.

I was working on coloring a lot of frames since that's what needs to be done the most, and I realised after watching the preview...the main animation is done. Now it's about coloring and lip syncing the mouth movements.
Will have more updates to come, hopefully not many and this project will be done. Also I doubt the live action thing will happen, it was just a dream, I just want to get it over with. Maybe one day in the future though...maybe...

Good to hear you're so near completion. Cutting out the live-action segments is probably a good idea, if only to get this project done sooner. You can always do the segments as a new project in the future and insert them into this.

A lot of work was done today, so much coloring, every scene except for one now has been drawn and animated, and of course this scene is a very easy still imagery one. Hopefully I will be done very soon, for there are grunts, sound effects, special effects, and music to add.
Hopefully tomorrow I can post a few more screencaps before it's finished and up online. I'd say two to three more weeks tops. (take it with a grain of salt as you know how busy scheduales can be)

Just as promised, though it's nothing spectacular, well maybe the art is, a picture from the end credits, enjoy
I'm ashamed to say this, but I wanted the art for the end credits to look just like the original Mario artwork, so I litterly had to trace this with lines, and bend each line perfectly to match the original character design, and of course Luigi had to be traced over Mario, but trimmed down a bit.

I think it looks great. And don't feel bad about the tracing--how else could you get a completely accurate Mario in that style? It's also really cool to see you rework Luigi in that style instead of keeping it a simple color swap.

I don't mind the tracing either. You wanted an authentic look and that was the best way to do it. You did everything else personally so it's not a very big deal... At least you did some nice work on Luigi!

Thank you both, I always had a thing about tracing, unless it was my own work. Luigi was actually kind of hard to trace to make thing, I thought I could just jump in and do it but it took like an hour to make him perfect. I know also the picture is off center, and that has been fixed for the final product.
The best news though, all the character frames are done. Only two need to be colored, and then finish up the backgrounds, re-record Luigi's voice to sound like the anime dub version, and it's done after lip snycing and sound effects. I hate repeating myself, but i can not wait to get this thing over with. I'm debating to do a new cartoon of my own when it's done or jump straight into Lost Levels.

A new update for the night, all the backgrounds have been finished(I really wish they could have been better, since I only draw characters not backgrounds) and, the sound effects have been mixed to the final fight and, I have to say, the fight sequence as fast pace as it is (the cartoons little longer then 5 minutes) it looks awesome. I was really worried it would look terrible, but once the sound effects were inserted, it just looks amazing. It's really getting closer and closer to being finished. Stay TOONed for more Mario 25 news.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the climax and your animation-talents in full-swing. It's been such a long time since your "melt down" deleted scene so I'm curious how much you've progressed and what you've managed to put into this project. It's certainly anxiously expected.

Everything is done, just missing a Mario line, and re-recording Luigi's voice for the Borat style still. But for the final pre-release update, here is a slew of screen caps
Oh and for some reason yahoo won't accept my email password, and I was signed out of youtube, and now you have to connect e-mail addresses, the cartoon will not be uploaded on diveoffaroofinc, for now it will be uploaded on KyerEntertainment. Look for it hopefully within the next 5 days.

Alright everyone, like Michael Jackson's "THIS IS IT" this is it, the moment we've all waited for. The cartoon is COMPLETE, that's right I said COMPLETE. I decided to go ahead and use the Luigi voice I already recorded to save time, and make it faster. It's uploading now on youtube but it's 8AM and I have work at 4, so I have to get some sleep, I will either upload it on the first thread of this topic, or make a new thread for it. Either way it's done, and I can not wait to show you all. A lot of sweat, blood, and tears went into making this cartoon, and I really hope you all enjoy, Super Mario Bros 25th Anniversary Special.

Major props for finishing this thing, UE5000. Some really great work here. Honestly, I'm glad you retained your original Luigi voice--it's more "timeless," in my opinion. All in all, a wonderful, short cartoon exploring the classic Super Mario Bros. story. I particularly loved the checkerboard road, as well as the really nice fluid animation with things like the fireballs, etc.
I can't wait to see more--don't stop doing this stuff!

I have to agree with Phlibbit: this was an amazing project that culminated in a great, faithful tribute to the games we all love. Everything was drawn and animated so well, though the dialogue could at times have been written better. I think my favorite part was when Luigi comes out of nowhere and hammers Koopa in the head... It's just great to see him being so proactive and different from the way the games have officially "developed" him.
I really do hope to see you continue this or try out more animation for us. It's really your calling. You have a great sense of style and humor.

Thank you both so much, it feels like I have nothing to do now but wonder what I will do next. I might make my own style of Mario cartoon about a boy saving a Princess ordeal. Not to sure yet. This was so much fun making and I'm glad it's just done and over with now.

Very curious how you might imagine Super Mario Bros. 2 in the story you've created. There's lots of fascinating elements and visuals in that game that would lend themselves well to an animated Mario story.

Just like in the comic Mario is sleeping and he keeps getting interupted by flying notes from Wart that he has kidnapped the people of Subcon and Princess Peach, and Mario has to save them both.
I'm sorry, but I don't think I will be jumping into it as fast as I thought I would be, I'm gonna take a break for a while for now. But it might come soon...like on Mario's 30th.
Oh and a two commentaries have been recorded for the 25th Cartoon, and is being edited, not sure when it will be complete.

Ah. No worries about not being able to jump into this continuation so soon. I'm sure once you do it'll be a great project. Super Mario Bros. 2 is rife with concepts and elements that would make for a visually stunning cartoon. Subcon should certainly have a contrast to the Mushroom Kingdom.

I can't believe this but this video has received 212,000+ hits on youtube. I believ 20,000 more hits than part 1 of the anime dub. Thank you all for viewing this cartoon. Maybe if it hits a million i'll do SMB2.

It was a very well done short, UE5000. I'm sure you've become much better at both art and animation since then, so if you do ever find yourself with 1,000,000+ hits we would love to see what you could do with another adventure. We'll be waiting!

I think you should have someone else do the Mario but still have that person do the gruffy Mario voice.

I like the gruff "Brooklyn Mario" version myself, though it all depends on how you want your character to react to the events at hand. Obviously certain voices will match different personalities better.
I'm very glad to see you revisiting this concept. A sequel to your original animated short has been a long time coming. We'll finally see how you've improved artistically over the years!

My art is horrible now I just do stick figures. hahhaaha jk. The story goes like the Valient comic story where Mario is dreamin and dies, wakes in his bed, then goes out to save peach then dies. But I have added stuff from the game, and a new twist at the end, which I think will help it out.

Whoah now! I think that's a little much. I mean a project like that could just barely get done if you voice a lot of the characters, have someone do all the animating, and use already made soundtracks, but if you have to use other voice actors and even do all the animating yourself!
I'm sorry, that's just insane! I mean granted, it's still possible but just barely.
