I am called Kougo, but my friends call me... Kougo.

I've been a big fan of the Super Mario Bros. film ever since I was just a little thing, and I'm glad to know that there are other people out there who don't constantly hate on it. It seems like everywhere I go I see people bashing it to no end and it can get a little depressing after a while. I've only ever found one article that defends it, calling it an "underappreciated masterpiece," which it is. That was probably the first time I realized that not everyone hated it. While the movie did have its flaws, I still think it's a great film. I had thought on and off about creating a site dedicated to the movie myself, but I never got around to it. I eventually found this site through a YouTube link and I'm happy to see someone else has done what I never did, and even pulled it off better than I could have.

I admit that I've known about this place for a while now, but I've decided it was time that I joined with the community. It may not exactly be a thriving one, but I still choose to be a part of it.

Also, may I inquire about the "Early Draft Script" link on the main site's navigation bar? I know it's not available at the moment, but I'm intrigued. Especially since I've read several interviews with Bob Hoskins and in one of them he mentions an early script that was better than what we ended up with.

And I just want to add that Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo will always be the real Mario Bros. to me.

Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the very thoughtful/insightful introduction :D

Thanks for taking the initiative to join the SMBMovie.com community; I know it's not thriving a lot yet, but I think it'll ramp up, especially once I get more stuff on the website and people like yourself spreads the word :P

And about that, stuff IS coming and I try to keep up with what's going on on these forums (yeah, like that's tough) but anyway.

The Early Draft Script I have is great, I promise. I'm satisfied with the movie that we got, but damn, some of the stuff in that thing is intriguing for sure. Also, what interviews are you referring to? If you could link me to any of that, I'd really appreciate it.

Anyway, thanks for joining us!

And by the way, did you draw your avatar? It's really cool. If you have that or any other fan-type stuff that you'd like me to put on the website, just email it :D

Thank you for the kind response and welcome.

Well, I look forward to reading that draft whenever it's available. And as for the interviews, I believe you can find them here: http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/bobhoski ... views.html

The one where he mentions an early script can be found under the "San Sebastian Film Festival Press Conference" link (or you could just click here). There are a lot of interviews on that site and many times the Super Mario Bros. film is brought up, but he's never too happy about it, often explaining how terrible the experience was, among other things.

And I'm not sure if you knew about this already (chances are you do), but a friend of mine found this lovely little link a while back and I thought it was a pretty interesting read. It's about the making of the movie.

As for my avatar, I didn't exactly draw it and it's not a hundred percent mine. The Mario sprite is actually from a game called "Mario no Super Picross" for the Super Famicom, and the Luigi sprite was edited from Mario's by a good friend of mine at an old request I made a couple of years ago. What I did was edit both sprites to give them designs based on the Super Mario Bros. film as I've always preferred their costumes in the movie than in the games. I went a step further and removed Luigi's moustache as well. The only thing missing from them are the blue collars and that's because I had a hard time drawing them, so I left 'em out for now.

Due to the avatar size limitations, they're a bit cut off. If you'd like to see the full version, here it is:

I realize their toolbelts don't have any tools, but I was going for a more simpler design (which is just a lame excuse for me being lazy), and though I like the "Thwomp Stomper" boots (that is what they're called, right?), I'm not sure if I could accurately implement those onto the sprites.

Hey, thanks for posting those links; I've come across both websites before, actually; I guess I just didn't read all the Hoskins interviews thoroughly enough to remember that part.

And neat job on the sprite editing. By the way, those Thwomp Stompers are damn hard to draw period, let alone in sprite form. I've taken a crack at a couple of versions; here's a little taste of what I've done:

That's pretty good. It's always nice to see some pixel art based on the movie.

And that's some nice Thwomp Stomper art you posted there. It's rare to find any good clear pictures of them, and that'd be very useful as a reference. But looking at them now, I don't think I even want to try adding them onto the sprites, hah.

If I get around to making more movie-based sprites, you can be sure I'll post them here. Well, not here here, but in the Fanstuff forum. ;)
