The Mother Series

Postby 1upmushroom » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:29 pm

Odds are you haven't heard of these series. If not, well you're missing a lot of stuff because this is one Nintnedo's best series story wise. All the games are designed differently but are all enjoyable n their own way.

I like Mother/EarthBound Zero for it's plain look and story.

I like Mother 2/EarthBound for it's wacky dialouge, good gameplay, and great characters.

I haven't played Mother 3 but I plan to.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I have played all of them, they are all great RPG's. Earthbound is my top favorite.
Luigi...mess this up, and I'll be an only child.

I've never played any of the games in the series, but I've certainly heard of it. You'd have to be living under a rock and completely unaware of gaming news in general to not know about Mother.

I played a ROM of this a few months back for SNES, its very fun, a good RPG. But what blows my mind is that the whole game is about abortion, exterminating an alien fetus still in the womb.

Giygas was based on a graphic/violent scene from an old movie the Game's creator saw as a child.

True but the last boss there's a site that describes it better than I did. Just Google 8 video game urban legend. Its just really in depth about, and to me it sounds like the dialogue is based on the movie he saw, but involving an abortion.

Actually he thought he was watching a Rape scene but he was witnessing a Murder Investigation Scene.

There's no reason that the game can't have been inspired by both.

What's really funny is, the game is usually described as campy, lighthearted fun and yet it's constantly filled with all this extremely dark stuff.

I totally agree. Im sure both are inspired. I can't say much from what I read considering I haven't beat the game, or even close to reaching the end.

As the article says the center looks like a cervix, and the characters go back in time to fight the enemy at his weakest which would be as a fetus. Infiltrate and destroy.

As I stated before the dialogue was probably inspired from the movie, and as Redstar said there can always be two isnpirations for everything.

Since that movie traumitized Itoi, I'm sure his mind is screwed up and he enjoys to insert twisted and sick images and references in his work.

You know I think I prefer Mother 2 out of all the mother games. Don't know why, I just like that one the most.
