The Banjo-Kazooie Series

Postby Phlibbit » Thu Aug 01, 2013 11:44 pm

I thought it might be fun to make a general topic about the Banjo-Kazooie series of games. In my opinion, the two main games in the franchise are among the best video games ever made. Here's the list:

-Banjo-Kazooie (N64)
-Banjo-Tooie (N64)
-Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (GBA)
-Banjo-Pilot (GBA)
-Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Xbox 360)

The two N64 titles are also available on the Xbox 360 Arcade, in widescreen and high definition. I've been replaying them both recently and thought it'd make a good topic. If you've never played them, you owe it to yourself to give them a shot! Ever wonder where my internet handle came from? The "Flibbit" enemies from Banjo-Kazooie!

When we first received an N64 we ended up renting the original Banjo-Kazooie, but never made it past the hub-world portion of the game. It wasn't until we actually bought the sequel, Banjo-Tooie, that our love for the property took off.

While I never beat the game as it was lost (perhaps stolen?) I did make it a fair way through the story. I loved the engaging gameplay and unique world, which was only made all the more fun through its quirky characters and locations.

I ended up getting one of the special "?" egg gamerpics when they were available for a limited time. Replaying it now, I'm so delighted to see how well they actually hold up. The graphics, gameplay, music--everything is rock-solid. Some things in Banjo-Tooie still amaze me--like Chuffy. A train that you acquire after a boss level that can actually take you around to other levels--and in one level it's REQUIRED that you use it to even make it anywhere in the level. Just ingenious level design.

The Banjo series was awesome on the 64. Though I didnt play Tooie, I owned the first one. If I recall or it was fake news, I remember hearing this was gonna be DK64 but it didnt feel right so the characters were changed. I never beat these games, downloaded them on 360 I really liked how Rare made the attempt to make the game widescreen and HD still maintaining its 64 bit graphics.
