Any other Video-Game movies ya' like?

Postby KoopaBro64 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:04 am

Just wondering since there are a lot of video-game movies out there nowadays, other than Super Mario Bros., are there any other video-game movies you guys like? :) Or maybe perhaps movies built-up like video-games with references to them (TRON, for example)? Oh yeah, fan-made films count too (Zelda: HERO OF TIME, would be one).

Personally, the ONLY official video-game movie I saw was Mario Bros., they just haven't made any other ones that have captured my attention, I've heard from many people Mortal Kombat was good, but, never got into that series, though I do own the game on Sega Genesis.

I've seen a couple of fan-made video-game films, though, the only close-to-perfect one was Mega Man, though the CGI in it looked out dated. :?

Yes I appreciate all videogame movies - the Mortal Kombat movies, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy and of course SMB. I totally agree with this site: people should understand what the filmmakers were trying to do with all videogame movies, and at least appreciate the immense amount of thought and respect that went into creating them - but also the extreme haters (i.e. those who make cruel 'jokes' like "Street Fighter is so sh***y it killed Raul Julia!") have no right to think and feel as they do and should either learn to appreciate, or rot in hell! There is a huge difference between 'opinion' and 'pure evil' - and tragically, the views I have seen all fall under the latter!

I was actually planning to go and see the first Resident Evil movie when it came out in 2002... but then I broke my leg. Ouch! So instead, as it is a 15-rate movie I suggested to my mum she should arrange for my brother and one of his friends to go and see it for his upcoming 15th birthday. She took me up on my suggestion - and even baked him a birthday cake while he was at the cinema!

Street Fighter happens to be my favourite movie. At first it was just another simple-pleasured, very beloved movie; also I would watch it out of respect for Raul Julia - I had a nasty blow of my own on the day of his funeral! But then... long story short, how can it not be my favourite when it especially won me over for reasons of sentimental value? All together now: "Awwww!"

When I learned of Dennis Hopper's diagnosis with terminal prostate cancer, yes I had half a hand on not only our beloved movie SMB but also a lot of my old Mario games (ones featuring Bowser, yes), and also my Bowser T-shirt. We know it can happen any time, so I needed to be ready! I even joined a SMB movie fangroup where I would later first meet RedStar - and thus learn of this fine site.

But like I mentioned on another thread, I was forced to intensely defend SMB -so much, I have even declared it my second-favourite movie- and I became wary people might make cruel jokes about Dennis Hopper's death, because... he died on a day when Street Fighter came on TV! Oh dear. Of course I watched SMB -and wore my Bowser T-shirt for the occasion, yes- as a tribute to him, in fact I watched it on the day of his funeral so yes you could say I paid my own last respects on the day... but obviously my heart ached bitterly over exactly when he died, and in my fear of the possibility of cruel jokes - a fear which, sadly, was realised on New Year's Day this year *glares at one Carlos 'Mad Cat' Pagan*

Thankfully... on July 20, after a month of waiting my heartache was... soothed, with the news of a new Street Fighter airing scheduled for August 7. In addition to my soothing of my heartache and my tributes to Dennis, on July 21 I even marked the occasion with my first completion of New Super Mario Bros. (the DS one)! Oh but the DAMME good news didn't end there, as less than 48 hours after this airing I learned of two more scheduled for September 3 and 4 - doesn't it just make you wonder if someone really was watching over me, and felt so sorry for me over my heartache but very grateful for my good intentions... they decided one airing be not enough? 0:-)

Yes, after my airings I felt a little more at ease, a little more able to better get over Dennis's death... but still I felt I would have to defend SMB and battle any haters - maybe even join a fan site for it, and discuss with an admin about being a 'Koopa Troopa' bodyguard there to fight off any haters who may dare to deface such a fine site. Imagine my luck when I first met RedStar - and yes I am most pleased to see no haters have dared to deface this fine site! I was however also very pleasantly surprised to learn Dennis did one final movie (Alpha & Omega), so yes as part of my tribute I have seen it too 0:-)

After also discussing it with RedStar, I am currently working on an article about why I joined this site. But since I have posted here about why I joined, should I still send my article once it is completed?

You should post it in your own topic! But, since that's getting a bit off topic I cannot say much, but, go for it!
Mentioning Dennis being made fun of for his death date...he died after the released date for SMB! One guy I knew made fun of Dennis because of that, bah, haters gonna hate

I forgot another great video-game related movie: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World! That was a GREAT movie, despite being based on a graphic novel series it IS built-up like a fighting game (Street Fighter best describes it) Too bad it was a bomb like Mario Bros. :( Another under appreciated masterpiece!

Well in a way, technically it's in-topic because... well, I joined this site for one beloved videogame movie because I was forced to intensively defend it as much as I defend another! Thanks for your vote in favour, let's see if I can get more votes :?:

Oh yes I noticed he died on the day after the 17th anniversary of SMB's release... but someone was also sick enough to make a cruel joke about this? Ouch! Do me a favour and SLAP the culprit HARD around the back of his head - and give me the guy's name so I can bash him good and proper! Extreme haters DISGUST me!

May 28 is also Kylie Minogue's (she played Cammy in Street Fighter) birthday, so again this adds to why I became so wary of Dennis having died on a day when Street Fighter was aired.

On the subject of these little factoids, I have a few more:
-If anyone is about to ask when I got the announcement for the two Street Fighter airings on... May 29 2010, I got the announcement for them 23 days earlier, on May 6.

-On May 7, just 22 days... ahead, I bought a Kylie Minogue CD, the last few Street Fighter 4 T-shirts in stock at one of my local videogame stores... and a Super Mario Bros. Super Show! video. I know not many people use their video players these days... but I bought it [A] for the sake of nostalgia, of the show being how I first heard of Super Mario; [B] out of respect for Captain Lou Albano; and [C] again as part of my well-wishes for Dennis.

-19 days ahead, on May 10, the staff at the same store where I bought the aforementioned SF4 T-shirts kept their promise and gave me their Super Street Fighter 4 TV bay (they might as well, since they gave me the SF4 one following said game's release in 2009 - oh and the movie came on TV on the day after SF4's release!). SSF4 was itself released over here in fact just six days before I got the announcement for the two airings on May 29.

-I went to see the AWESOME Prince of Persia movie five days before Dennis died. On this same day I picked up the uber-rare Street Fighter 2 Look and Find book :D

-On the day after I went to see Prince of Persia, mum made this outfit for my 21st Vega figure: http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?id=1 ... 1069176575 . The figure itself arrived on the day before SSF4's release - and thus a week before I got the announcement.

-A couple of days before Dennis died, I picked up some more SF4 T-shirts left in stock at another videogame store.

I really liked The Hero of Time (zelda movie), even though the SFX werent great. You gotta remember that it was a FAN FILM and not "hollywood made." I even made my own DVD for it... :D

I actually think Sage of darkness is better, I mean the special effects are very limited since the budget was very low. But the acting was good and it had a bit more fanfair references in there, plus an original story instead of just baseing it on one of the games.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

It was alright! I mean, it was great up until the point Link went to the temples, It got a little weird at that point, with that Octopus creature boss...yeah...where's Phantom Ganon? They could've done him! :? At LEAST they had King Dodongo! I really liked the part when Link got his bow at that shop in Hyrule Market though! That crazy Shopkeeper gave a laugh! :D Great for a fanfilm! But I think Mega Man was better...as far as fanfilms go :)
