Yes I appreciate all videogame movies - the Mortal Kombat movies, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy and of course SMB. I totally agree with this site: people should understand what the filmmakers were trying to do with
all videogame movies, and at least appreciate the immense amount of thought and respect that went into creating them - but also the extreme haters (i.e. those who make cruel 'jokes' like "Street Fighter is so sh***y it killed Raul Julia!") have no
right to think and feel as they do and should either learn to appreciate, or rot in hell! There is a huge difference between 'opinion' and 'pure evil' - and tragically, the views I have seen all fall under the latter!
I was actually planning to go and see the first Resident Evil movie when it came out in 2002... but then I broke my leg. Ouch! So instead, as it is a 15-rate movie I suggested to my mum she should arrange for my brother and one of his friends to go and see it for his upcoming 15th birthday. She took me up on my suggestion - and even baked him a birthday cake while he was at the cinema!
Street Fighter happens to be my favourite movie. At first it was just another simple-pleasured, very beloved movie; also I would watch it out of respect for Raul Julia - I had a nasty blow of my own
on the day of his funeral! But then... long story short, how can it
not be my favourite when it especially won me over for reasons of sentimental value? All together now: "Awwww!"
When I learned of Dennis Hopper's diagnosis with terminal prostate cancer, yes I had half a hand on not only our beloved movie SMB but also a lot of my old Mario games (ones featuring Bowser, yes), and also my Bowser T-shirt. We know it can happen any time, so I needed to be ready! I even joined a SMB movie fangroup where I would later first meet RedStar - and thus learn of this fine site.
But like I mentioned on another thread, I was forced to intensely defend SMB -so much, I have even declared it my
second-favourite movie- and I became wary people might make cruel jokes about Dennis Hopper's death, because...
he died on a day when Street Fighter came on TV!

Oh dear. Of course I watched SMB -and wore my Bowser T-shirt for the occasion, yes- as a tribute to him, in fact I watched it on the day of his funeral so yes you could say I paid my own last respects on the day... but obviously my heart ached bitterly over
exactly when he died, and in my fear of the possibility of cruel jokes - a fear which, sadly, was realised on New Year's Day this year *glares at one Carlos 'Mad Cat' Pagan*
Thankfully... on July 20, after a month of waiting my heartache was... soothed, with the news of a new Street Fighter airing scheduled for August 7. In addition to my soothing of my heartache and my tributes to Dennis, on July 21 I even marked the occasion with my first completion of New Super Mario Bros. (the DS one)! Oh but the DAMME good news didn't end there, as less than 48 hours after this airing I learned of two more scheduled for September 3 and 4 - doesn't it just make you wonder if someone really was watching over me, and felt so sorry for me over my heartache but very grateful for my good intentions... they decided
one airing be not enough? 0:-)
Yes, after my airings I felt a little more at ease, a little more able to better get over Dennis's death... but still I felt I would have to defend SMB and battle any haters - maybe even join a fan site for it, and discuss with an admin about being a 'Koopa Troopa' bodyguard there to fight off any haters who may dare to deface such a fine site. Imagine my luck when I first met RedStar - and yes I am most pleased to see no haters have dared to deface this fine site! I was however also very pleasantly surprised to learn Dennis did one final movie (Alpha & Omega), so yes as part of my tribute I have seen it too 0:-)
After also discussing it with RedStar, I am currently working on an article about
why I joined this site. But since I have posted
here about why I joined, should I still send my article once it is completed?
