The Angry Video Game Nerd
This maybe a long shot but.....If we can get the Angry Video Game Nerd to watch the movie but from our point of a view. Maybe he may like and we can ask him to do a video about it.

Re: The Angry Video Game Nerd
While that is a very creative and possible way to market the film, A. James rarely if ever sells out and if he does do a video he'll most likely speak his opinion even if it's a negative one. Also, B. James is stated to be a Nintendo fan (and it really shows) so it's most likely he hates the film for not being really faithful to the game if not he wouldn't like it.
Isn't this a little feminine?
Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.
But you wear this stuff?!
Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I remember Jim Rolfe (the Nerd) said he thought the trailers looked awesome and he liked the cyberpunk setting, but he found the movie to be disappointing itself. Maybe if he read up on this site about the facts behind it we could convince him that it is a good movie, but one that needs to be extended and recut for the actual full effect to be put into swing.
Anyone who saw Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America" knows what I'm talking about. When they premiered that movie in 1984, the original four hour cut was slimmed down by producers (without the director's permission) to under two hours-- people hated it. A critic said it was the worst film of '84. But years later, when the four hour cut was released, that same critic recanted and called it "the best movie of the 1980s." This is why we need an extended cut, because the movie, as it is, while good, is incomplete.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

We have to see if we can get the nerd in on this. He has HUGE cult fallowing and a massive fan base. People will listen to him. Help me construct an email to him and lets see if we can convince...Hey we have nothing to loose.
This is what I wrote so far
what else? You guys would know more of what to put than I would.

Dear James,
Hello my name is Justin Sprauer. First off BIG FAN! Looking forward to your movie and I hope 1 day I can meet you. Anyway, I was wondering if I could have a moment of your time to talk about Something I actually love that most people (Even you) hated....The Super Mario Brothers Movie. I know when this movie came out everyone said it sucked. But it's almost 20 years later. And people are actually starting to think a bit differently about the film.
Obviously this wasn't the live action Mario Brothers we were all hopping for. But, if you actually watch it as it's own movie...It's not that bad. I loved the city sets. And the actors were great. Sure Bob is British but he never uses a British accent. And as for Johnny give him a stash and and a different voice and he embody's Luigie perfectly. Their both are perfect for those roles. Thee movie has some great action sequences and Mario references. Sure Koopa is a human and the goombas looked stupid. But I see them as just Mario references.

Re: The Angry Video Game Nerd
Well one you have to realise that the Nerd is a totally different character from James, and the onyl time he ever said he hated the SMB MOVIE was when he was in character. Two, you're doing it kind of wrong.
You see, you don't want James to think that you see him as a marketing tool or whatever. If you want my advice just ask him if he could a review or retrospective on the SMB MOVIE. Don't tell him why you think it's great, just ask him if he can talk about it. Him mentioning it alone would probably boost people's interest in it even if he does say negative things about it.
Then again that's my opinion, though I highly recommend you take my advice if you really plan on doing this.
You see if you ask James to review the movie and then say why you think it's good, he and Mike would probably laugh their heads off (well maybe just Mike because he's been a douche lately) however if you just ask him if he could do a review or even just talk about it, I gaurentee, you'll have a better chance of him agreeing to do so. Again, that's just how I see it.

Yeah...that could work! Im also interested in testing a thesis I read about this movie. Someone reviewed it on Amazon and it would be interesting for for him to see this thesis and watch it with it in mind. You can read it here.
A completely misunderstood movie. Here's why it is good.

Which review, exactly, are you referring to? There really isn't a "first" review listed on the page you've linked. Try finding the review and clicking the 'permalink' button to get the proper URL.
Also, please do not write Mr. Rolfe in regards to this. While we appreciate the passion and intent we just don't want us and the film to be represented by anyone but site staff. We have protocol on how to handle these things, you see. Invitations and proposals have to be handled in certain ways.
We'll certainly do more research on the subject, though, and determine whether speaking with him is a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion.
