Charles Martinet (the voice of Mario and others) was recently interviewed at GamesCom 2011 by JP Games. Charles was asked the usual questions of how he came into acting/voice-acting and how he auditioned for the role of Mario's voice.
However, he was also asked whether he had auditioned for the role of Mario in the live-action adaptation and if he enjoyed it once it came out. Watch the full video below or skip ahead to 9:20 for the portion covering the movie.

I think that's a typical reaction, especially for someone who voices a completely different type of Mario than the one seen in the movie. Interestingly enough, Mario having a thick, Italian broken-English accent was thought up by Charles Martinet, who had initially done a gruff, Brooklyn accent but changed it on a whim and ran with it. He's one of the five people who have played Mario: Peter Cullen, Lou Albano, Walker Boone (my personal favorite of the voice actors), Bob Hoskins in the live action film and finally him, Charles Martinet, who is the current title holder as the voice of Mario.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Wow, it's interesting to hear some sort of response from Martinet in regards to the film, but it's a shame that he didn't elaborate much. Maybe with some prodding he could've responded further.

I guess his reaction is to be expected! It was funny at first when he said he saw all of it then he just KEEEPT going with it and his joke got old, IMO...would've been better to get a real elaboration but I guess he thought he was being so funny

I think it might have been the reaction of the interviewer that kept him going... or maybe he was waiting for another question, and the interviewer kept waiting for more... kind of a stalemate?
Martinet is cool, though, I can say that much from experience.
