Would a movie without Luigi work?

Lately ive been having ideas on how a solo Super Mario movie would be like. When it comes to superheroes the sidekick tends to be dead weight for the main hero. SO do you guys think a movie with just Mario work?

No. Luigi is a complementary opposite to Mario, without Luigi you just have one type of character with an off-balanced attitude that needs to be properly weighed out by an opposite yet equal character beside him.

I agree with Serum. Mario may have had various different personalities and hero-types in his myriad games, cartoons, comics and films, but each one has always required a "Luigi" character to complement and in some cases temper him. The two just work together. I think they're easily more successful than the usual "hero/sidekick" formula.

I believe movies without one brother or the other brother would work based on stories written especially for them.

Maybe if they (Heaven forbid) made a movie out of "Luigi's Mansion" in the style of a cartoon, but even there, Mario is the main focus-- he's the damsel in distress.

Why would that be bad? I liked Luigi's Mansion.

I adored Luigi's Mansion. I beat that game and got all the gold frames and the highest score possible, but I don't think it would work as a cartoon very well.

I disagree. I think a Luigi's Mansion cartoon would be very suited for a mid-'90s/early-'00s episodic cartoon. Obviously, you'd have to feature Professor E. Gadd in the beginning and end of most episodes and introduce a friendly ghost or two through the series' run, but it could be done.

Yes, mid-90s to early 2000s era it would work, 2002 at the absolute latest, but nowadays no one would watch it.
