Also, in what parts of Wilmington were they shot? I was just curious because I have been to parts of Wilmington.

This is probably a gross generalization, but I believe it would be fair to say that 95% of the film was shot in Wilmington. Much of it took place on the town streets and in the Ideal Cement Factory.
All the establishing shots depicting New York and the Brooklyn Bridge were shot by David Snyder in New York itself, while the opening nun scene and Lance Henriksen cameo were shot in L.A studios after production had ended.
I can't tell you where in Wilmington certain scenes may have been shot, but I'm sure that Phlibbit may be able to figure that out since he's been there as well.

Redstar is extremely accurate about all that. Most all of the film was shot in the Ideal Cement Factory--with the desert scenes taking place in the quarry right next to it.
As far as which streets in Wilmington served as the NYC location, I'm not sure. Hopefully some of the contacts we have will be able to give us some specifics.

That is awesome! I feel so privileged to have gone to the same town that they shot the movie in, and twice! Do you know what the name of the cement factory is and how close it is to the USS North Carolina ship? The ship is where my family went when we went to Wilmington.

Yeah, I'd have to go with Redstar and say almost, if not all of the movie was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. The movie "The Crow" was also shot there, the one with Bruce Lee's son, Brandon Lee-- a similar movie in tone, if you ask me. But yes, the only stuff shot in New York was done by a second crew who were probably only in New York for twenty four hours before they used movie magic to splice together the sets in Wilmington and Brooklyn.
