The cast of the Mario movie was one brave crew!

They were filming in the Ideal Cement Factory, a place with a sinister past and a sinister bunch of hauntings. I just watched a episode of MTV's 'Fear' and the location for the episode was that very factory.

Terrible things happened there. A man, on a blood moon, who was the owner of the factory at one time, went hundreds of feet up to a ramp of some sort at the top of a tower and, under mysterious circumstances, committed suicide by hanging himself from it.

Also there was a tunnel, some kind of furnace I think, that was undergoing some sort of repair inside the factory and there were about four men working inside it when it suddenly turned itself on and everyone in it was burned alive.

And another was about an area called either the scrubber or the crusher and there was a large machine that was running, and a man's shirt got caught in it and he was pulled in and crushed to death.

The worst though was a room that filled with came uwater and 9 workers were electrocuted and were found floating by fellow co-workers who found them.

Most infamously, Brandon Lee was killed during the filming of The Crow in the town of Wilmington.

Yes, accidents are bound to happen when shooting a film, but Wilmington being a relatively young shooting location at the time I would image they were risking a lot just by being there. There certainly weren't hospitals around on-par with those in L.A.

I had no idea that the factory's history was so gruesome. Supposedly, the guy that committed suicide did so on the night of a full blood moon and when the moon has been like that since, people have claimed to see him walking around in the area he died in. They were incredibly brave, especially considering the director's were fired a few weeks in and they had to basically finish the movie themselves!

Well, Richard Edson (Spike) did mention in our interview with him that the house Samantha Mathis rented while staying there was haunted.

Really? I don't remember him saying that... Weird. It must be akin to a lot of the places here in Pennsylvania that are severely haunted, like Pennhurst State Hospital.

Walking around a set that used for the film with a video camera does not count but that's just how I see it.

Also, that post you mentioned was made recently, which meant that for a long time thisd thread had no purpose being in the Fan Works section. And there's a slight chance it still won't if Skull Kid decides not to go.

We've heard that signage and props from the film are littered throughout the area, so see if you can snatch anything up!

I would say a fan work is anything based on or around the movie. And that includes footage of the supposedly haunted cement factory in Wilmington. I'll give him extra points if he catches a gathering of orbs on film. Those are always awesome in ghost pictures, even if they are just dust particles.

Everyone, I have yet to find solid proof that the Cement Factory is 'truly' haunted and that the alleged tragedies stated in the 'FEAR' show really occurred. I never meant to lead anyone on about these events. I just now found out myself that supposedly it was all made up for the show, but you never know. It was just a commenter on the youtube video that said none of it was real.

So...who knows. I'm officially starting my own online quest to discover whether the tragedies and hauntings are truth or not.

Well if it's a factory I am sure it's true. People die out of stupidity, carelessness, or accidently in them all the time. I used to work at a factory and I'm sure people died in it from the early 1900's. Like this one man got electrocuted and died. There was another factory where a guys body was crushed into a machine, but his head was still alive, and he asked to see his family before passing on.

I'm sure it's haunted, but not as haunted as TV makes it out to be. Ghost Chasers, all those other shows are abull crap. South Park really summed up that show, and did a very good job. Plus, if those Ghost people actually did find a ghost, the government would get a hold of them and kill them.

(I have located a piece of information that may be confirmation of true paranormal goings on at the cement plant where the Mario movie was filmed. This info speaks about something called the 'stairs to nowhere' which sounds very intriguing. I am dying to find out what this title refers to and what area of the plant.)

I was wondering if you have heard of the old factory near the waterfront in Wilmington. I went to school at UNCW in the late 80's, and I remember hearing folks talk about going down there late at night and climbing the "stairs to nowhere." I had forgotten all about this place until watching MTV's show, FEAR the other night. If you caught it, that's the Cement Factory .

I don't really believe in ghosts. I used to believe in the whole "Amityville Horror" stuff, but then I read the books, which were written by someone named John G. Jones (which I believe is a pseudonym for George Lutz, the guy who started the whole thing) and they were self-indulgent crap which made me realize, for lack of a better euphemism that the whole story was just 'hocus pocus.'

Don't worry, I will be going over there soon enough with the aim to solve this mystery. I'm just trying to get a time when both me and my buddy are free. We're going to go twice in a 24 hour period. One to scout it out during the day and the second time at night to coax out any boos that may be lurking about! Both times I'll be filming extensively.

I'll make a note look for the "stairs to nowhere" which, incidentally, is actually quite interesting... As there are literally "stairs to nowhere" in Super Mario 64... Haha. Coincidence??? We'll find out!

Serum, I have to disagree with you. I, for one, believe there are things out there that defy explanation, for I have had some experiences of my own, and a photograph from a little place called Gettysburg is the most solid proof I have captured, in my opinion. And just last week, I was down at the riverfront here where I live and I looked up into the sky as I sat in the car and saw a good-sized ball of light moving moving somewhat slowly past where I was, then it went out over the water and dissapeared completely above the middle of the river.

Where are the 'stairs to nowhere' located in Mario 64? I have heard about them but I don't think I've found them yet? It does make you wonder if the cement plant had an influence on this part of the game, especially since the game was made after the movie came out.

However if you don't have more than 72 stars then when you walk up the stairs they'll just keep repeating over and over while this creepy set of music plays in the background.

I can't imagine that the Cement Factory from the movie had anything to do with inspiring the people who made Mario 64, but who knows. Also interesting, there's a game called Mario Cement Factory. The only villain in this game outside the race against time? A Boo.

I completely agree with this. Please, be sure to post your video footage after your investigation! The video of the FEAR episode I posted shows the catwalk from the movie. Has anyone checked the video out and seen something they remember from the film?

Having creepy music along with it only further makes me believe that there is a connect between this part of the game and the cement plant. Actually, you only need 70. But you don't get the 'true' ending if you only go with 70 stars.

That is a good title too, but I think 'The Ruins of Dinohattan' has a more effective tone to it. It just sounds so...creepy yet mysterious.

I just came across this and thought it was very interesting and that it could perhaps could have been one reason why an abandoned cement factory was used for the filming of the Mario movie. It may be a bit far-fetched for me to believe there is any connection but who knows? I think it's a possibility. I never knew this game existed before.
