You knew you liked this movie too much when...

Postby Mama Luigi » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:21 am

TRUE STORY TOPIC!! No made up stuff please!

When you were a kid - or when grown up - you knew you like this movie so much WHEN.........

When me & my friend used to play Mario & Luigi pretending that we were them, I always chose Luigi because I was taller and I used to wear my cap backwards like Luigi did in the movie!!

I knew I liked this movie too much when I preferred watching it over the Evil Dead. God I was pitied.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I knew I loved this movie too much when I began to spend hundreds of dollars of my own money to fund theatrical screening events and a documentary project.

Oftentimes in an elevator my dad and I will start humming and swaying. XD He was the one who first showed me the movie, and that scene's the one that sticks out to him most, understandably.

I love how popular that scene was despite being improved on-set. It's probably one of the few improvisations that really stuck through into the final cut.

So many great things in film is improvised. Another example I can think of is in the first Indiana Jones, there was this whole battle planned out with the guy with the duel swords and Indy's whip, but Harrison Ford, at the time infected with dysentery, couldn't perform the stunts. After many unsuccessful tries, Harrison suggested Indy just pulled out his gun and shot at the guy. It was a total "Indy" thing to do, so they went with that instead of what was just in the original script.

Deviations and happy accidents like that happen ALL the time. Lord knows they happened on the animation projects I've been involved with.

Hmm, maybe I like this movie a little too much because of the shrine I'm building on the altar in my room covered in "Super Mario Bros." movie memorabilia. Every night I light the candles on the altar and burn a page of a movie guide that gave it a bad review...

Just kidding, I do have the soundtrack and the poster as well as some of the toys, though. But the fact that I watch this movie at least twice a day is probably enough to know I like it a little too much.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Some would argue that liking it at all is liking it too much.

That said, on a personal level, I don't think I've reached that point yet... and this is after I've dressed up as Bob Hoskins' Mario and passed out cards at a convention promoting the site.

I would say just watching it over and over, and defending it from people who give it bad reviews and collecting 'Super Mario Bros.' movie merchandise. Also I quote the movie quite often. "You got a problem with that?" - Luigi. Haha :)
