I just discovered a 2007 documentary (Hollywood Goes Gaming) on the history of video games and their journey into Hollywood, from the original TRON to Resident Evil to, of course, Super Mario Bros. The documentary features interviews with Paul W. S. Anderson, Uwe Boll, Shigeru Miyamoto and even Rocky Morton & Annabel Jankel.
The segment on Super Mario Bros. is roughly six minutes long and fairly in-depth, though there's not much more information than what we already know. Apologies for the Spanish subtitles.

Re: Hollywood Goes Gaming Documentary
I won't lie. I've got a decent few video game movies on DVD or Blu-Ray. I even at one point owned Double Dragon on VHS along with a few other movies. And I've pretty much liked all the ones I've seen. I wouldn't call any of them masterpieces... but they were fun to watch.

I don't know, I'm a big fan of Uwe Boll... I have several of his films on DVD and if I were writing and executively producing a "Mario Bros" sequel, I'd give him the director's chair-- that's how insanely confident I am.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.
