An Idea!! Thwomp Boots Recreated!!!

Postby moviebuffmel90 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:54 pm

Ever since I saw the movie, one thing that I always would like to have was a pair of the Thowmp boots that are worn in the climax. Aside from the Goomba designs, I felt they were the "Hoverboards" of the movie. Speaking of which, Mattel did a reproduction of the Hoverboard which lead to a massive sold out success of BTTF fans pre-ordering a copy of Marty's future toy and I do mean successful.

Now, seeing how there is only one pait left in existance, I was wondering if was possible to see a recreation of the Thowmp boots for the fans. That would be awesome to do. Hell, Adam Savage is a pro at recreating movie props like the Mattise Falcon and even the Time Bandits map. Even thought this movie is gaining fans, the icing on the cake would be a pair of those boots. That would really make all SMB fans day.

Please, take this under heavy consideration. Filmbuffs love a prop recreation and those boots are damn iconic to many.

It's not a bad idea, but it's not up to us to decide. We'd have to get ahold of someone up in charge of Lightmotive or something in order to even propose such a thing. But it might be good to promote a cause like trying to cure prostate cancer, which Dennis Hopper passed away from a few years ago.

There's certainly more than just one pair in existence; Blake Dumesnil (moviemaker29) owns a pair and a half while at least three other people that worked on the film own their own pairs. That accounts for seven existing boots, leaving the hope for more likely.

We have considered commissioning replica boots for the film as they would undoubtedly make for very enticing rewards in our upcoming projects. The main disadvantage at this time is that the man who made them is not responding to attempts to hire him for such a purpose. We really wouldn't want to go outside the original artist unless we must as that would make them less "official."

We have that kind of power?

Ah, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over a "less official" pair of Thwomps. Any pair of Thwomps is better than no Thwomps at all. 'Sides, if any mention of SMB fills the original propmaker with dread, then I'd say it's best to drop the issue.

Incidentally, I'm hoping to give my cosplay an upgrade next year with a pair of Thwomp Stompers. Thing is, I really have no idea where to start as far as making them go.

Hmm, ski boots, you say...?

(I also hope to come up with some new poses for people taking pictures; I can't help but think maybe I could have done better...)

Our main concern is whether people would be as interested in an unofficial replica pair insofar as donation incentive or fund-raising. An official replica pair could easily fetch $300 - $400, but how much could an unofficial pair get?

My roommate actually tinkers together steampunk memorabilia to sell, so I'm working with him to create a basic replica pair for a side-project. If you're interested we could speak privately about having a pair made for you as well.

I would be interested in a pair or two if it came out pretty good.
