Me: Still dont care what ANYONE SAYS! This is a GREAT MOVIE. It may not be related to the game. But on its own...its a good film.
Him: Horrible
Me: Stop looking at it as the live action Super Mario Brothers movie. And look at it as it's own film and or a mario reference movie.
Him: If you call yourself super mario and you bother to get the trademark rights, it has to make sense. Even as a movie if the game didn't exist, it would still be an awful movie that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Me: Well according to research. Nintendo wanted a live action film. The directors said impossible. This has to be animation. Nintendo said nah just hit all the key elements and you'll be fine. So they didn't know what to do. So they decide to make a scifi Mario Reference movie. And most people today agree Mario would have to be in animation. And does not make sense? Luigie falls in love with a girl. She get's kidnapped and he tries to save her from Koopa who is trying to merge the 2 worlds and take over the world...what's not to get?
Him: Thats the most generalized view of that film. Theres tons that makes no sense, here Ill make this easier. I posted the video of my intent (He posts The Review from the Nostalgia Critic)
Me: I have seen this. First off Luigie saying mario is his father. He did't say that. He said Mario raised him LIKE a father. They are indeed brothers. As for the name Mario Mario. They were just trying to be funny. But it was never intended to be a comedy. Even films that aren't comedies do have try to have some funny lines here or there. The British man...You never hear his British accent in the film do you?
As for the voice he does use in the film...Sounds very New Yorker to me. As for the Latino. He embodies Luigie perfectly. If he had a stash and perhaps a better voice he would be perfect. Koopa being a human and not reptilian. According to an interview with Key Make Up affects artist of the film Jeff Goodwin. They tried making him and other people in the city look reptilian. But it looked WAY to creepy. Don't beliebe me? See for yourself http://www.smbmovie.com/SMBArchive/spec ... 30-09.html
as for the goombas. If it was just the head and feet i believe it would be more like the game. But whos gonna be affraid of something that's not even knee high? It's like Chucky just kick him. As for daisy's dad. I'll give you that. I wasn't sure where they were going on that either. But see both you and him are just nick picking and still being pissed off that it's not the kind of Mario movie you wanted. Everybody knew it couldn't be live action accept Nintendo.
Him: You are completely missing anything that could be considered a relevant point. They made a bad movie with a storyline that was incoherent, had no transitions, no character development there was nothing to it. It was bad enough to make the Scifi network cringe. If it had not been live action it still would ha e been AWFUL. If you honestly think that this film woukd have been better as a poor 90s cgi rendition, you are in denial.
If a movie noy meant to be a comedy comes off as a comedy, its because the writing was awful. Latin Luigi? That makes sense, two supposed Italians and one of them makes Carlos Mencia sound more Italian. Who cares about what they DIDNT do in the film? Does the audience have to watch interviews to explain why the film makers didnt make the movie better? Thats ridiculous.
The Goombas were retarded, they moved like stick figures. Your implying their look was scary. There was nothing scary about those special ed reptars. They looked like you could have walked away from them. Peaches dad being the magical fungus that saves them with a form of psychic communication? None of this film made any sense. Your distinction between live action and animated makes no difference at all. But maybe im out of line here, all the critic reviews should support your claim along with the great awards and nominations it got........ Oh wait...
Me: Hey you posted a video by that critic saying this is how I felt about the movie. So assuming thats what you meant. I gave an answer to everything he and you complained about. As for story...Dude, this was from the 16-Bit Nintendo era. There wasn't much story or character development in the games. Which means the writers had virtually nothing to go off of. And if you don't want to read what I posted. I am providing you an answer and you dont want to read it? That sounds like a personal problem. You refuse to see that maybe your wrong. At least on something. As for the Goomabs being scary. Like I said before. Your not going to be intimidated by a walking a mushroom. They had to do something to make them look at least intimidating. And if goombas are stupid enough yo walk off a cliff in the game. Why should they be so smart in the film? And with them being so big in this tightly packed city. It's gonna be harder to escape.
As for Luigie. Like a said a DIFFERENT voice. Her Dad being a fungus. Like I said before i'll give you that. They way I see it. everyone has a right to be heard and explain what they did. It sounds like you all are still pissed this wasn't the movie you expected. It's time to try to looking at it another way.
Him: Heres my problem with your narcissism, I read what you said Justin and i countered because nothing you wrote makes the slightest difference. Youve done nothing but list excuses for why a bad movie should be considered good. You go from saying its nothing to do with the game to they did their best to make it like the game. Which is it? Should I accept its shortcomings because its like the game and is awful or becase the writers went there own way and its awful? Im not pissed at all. Its a terrible film, and the majority of the world agrees.
This movie has been in the bottom of the 5$ bin at Walmart since 1999, so I dont see what your point, if any, is supposed to be. Who cares what they were trying to do, its what they did that matters. If the different voice your referring to is the one that comprises psychic fungus and Dennis hopper dressed as a 1980s hipster supposedly as Bowser, whilst John Legizamo a puerto rican funnyman trues to portray an supposedly shy and awkward Luigi, using nintendo toys as weapons, making awkward jokes, Yoshi as a sidebar dinosaur dog, and Portals opening up like an episode of Sliders, all the while it being in a futuristic city with large black women trying to seduce Mario then yes, id say this was obnoxious, incoherent garbage.
Like I SAID, I read your belligerent and obnoxious series of excuses and addressed them all. If its a dumb premise, with a cast that makes less sense than Ron Jeremy as Mario and Dolph Lundgren as Koopa, then this was retarded. If you ask it to stand as a film as a separate entity, then it should be good. Ps, this wasnt 16 bit nintendo era. Super Nintendo was out before this film, not that the bit rate has a damn thing to do with why a movie was badly made.
Me: I'm simply defending a movie I actually like. And you said it sucked and I stood behind it and why. You brought up why you thought it sucks and I answered to it. Thats it.
Him Okay whatever you say.
So what do you all think?
