Hello. Today is the 28th of May in Down Under, that means it's the 20th Anniversary of this film!
I can't remember how long i've been a fan of this movie for but I remember the first time I saw it at the video shop, (this was back before DVDs)....I was small, and I just randomly walked past a movies section and then I saw the VHS of Super Mario Bros. I got really excited to see that VHS's were made (this was before the general internet we have today so I didn't use stuff like wikipedia or facebook back then). I pulled it out and it was a movie and I was like "OH MY GOD THEY MADE A SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE!!!!! I really screamed this in the shop. I "asked" mum to hire it (it was those video shops where you hire videos, not buy them) and when I came home and watched it it was the greatest and craziest thing i've ever seen and I've loved it ever since.
The film also plays an important role because I got into some of my favorite bands from it's soundtrack like Queen, Joe Satriani, Roxette, and Megadeth. The Movie Soundtrack was really hard to find in Australia (I even tried to look for it in SIngapore!) but EVENTUALLY I found it in a wonderful record shop in Czech Republic in 2003. I just went over to the soundtracks section and just decided to test my luck AND THERE IT WAS!!!!! The cool thing about it was that it was the German release with the bonus tracks.
I still have this CD and i'm actually listening to it right now. It's my favorite movie soundtrack along with my favorite movie.
I'm putting out 20th Anniversary Fan Artwork on my Deviantart Page in dedication to this film (please check it out). It wasn't until sometime in 2007 I was finally allowed to buy the film because they were having sales on all of their VHS's since we live in a world of DVDs now.
I used to hire out the film every week if I had the chance. And now I own the exact copy I used to hire out every single time.
There was an Australian DVD release in 2008, by Umbrella Entertainment and although it's not in 5.1 surround sound the picture is very clear and in Widescreen. The bars do not flicker and it doesn't have any problems like i've heard the American release has. It even has a really nice menu screen with only a Trailer as a special feature. We are all still hoping this DVD gets an official release one day.
Me and my friends are going to start dancing in elevators now and some of them have already told me that they started
So there you have it.
I close by saying to me I don't care about the differences, I think this movie is quite unique and there's nothing else like it. I like to have an open mind and I really enjoy this movie just for what it is and I don't think anything about it needed to be changed. Nobody is making me think otherwise if they have any "different" opinions about my favorite movie and how much I like it.
I never even thought that there would be anniversary screenings and all of this stuff for it even in the future. It is a very special movie and a very special occasion.
Happy 20th anniversary, Super Mario Bros. The Movie!

Thanks for the post! All of us in America hope that our Aussie friends are celebrating the anniversary just as well as we are.
