Homebrew Game?
It's recently come to my attention that it is very possible to make your own video game using reworked levels, characters, and stages from NES games, and mix them all up to make a new video game. I was thinking that it would be really cool if a qualified person could design "Super Mario Bros: The Movie: The Game" using concepts from the other Mario games. It doesn't seem to be a difficult thing to learn to do for most people, but I'm not a particularly technology-inclined person. Does anybody think such a game would be cool?

Re: Homebrew Game?
The guys over at Nintendium 128 have informed us that they are in fact developing a sidescroller, SNES-style game in adaptation of the film. I believe they said it would be completed later this year, although we should have screenshots and video sooner than that.
In the meantime, check out the topic where others have shared their own sprites and environments from such a hypothetical game: Super Mario Bros.: The Movie: The Game

That's awesome. Will it be made available for purchase?

It'll be released for free, as far as I know.
Here's a screenshot that they sent me:

Wow, that looks really cool. Wonder if it'll be multiplayer. It would be too bad if the Marios couldn't go on their adventure together!

Re: Homebrew Game?
I've always wanted to see some fan-made game based on the movie (because we all know Nintendo would never make one) bur I never thought of doing it on a console.
I'd like to see it somehow combine the cartoony style of other Mario games with the grittyness of the movie. Kind of like Metal Slug. In fact, I think a Metal Slug game would make a great base for a game like that. Mario could run around with a super scope and fight koopas while jumping around the city.
