Which Mario games would make good movies?
When Super Mario Bros. The Movie came out, there were not a lot of Mario games out there, and none with that much of a plot. So naturaly the writers had to come up with something new. Now, modern Mario games are seldom plot heavy, but perhaps one would work better as a straight addaptation. Luigi's Mansion comes to mind, as well as Mario Galaxy. Would any other games work, and how much change would be needed to translate them to the screen?

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and it would mainly need streamlining. Lots and lots of streamlining.

Would you keep the paper elements? Because a live actor being folded into an airplane sounds painfull.

I don't think any of the games, past or present, would make good inspiration for an adaptation. The games have always been more about atmosphere and theme. As long as you keep the mushrooms and living wilderness you'll probably succeed.
That being said, Mario Galaxy's introduction of a cosmic theme would translate well to a more modern take.
