Barry Morrow's Original First Draft?

Postby Serum » Wed Apr 02, 2014 8:14 pm

Okay, I think the Archive has almost everything script-wise regarding the movie, but there's one thing I rarely hear come up-- and that's the Barry Morrow penned very first draft of the screenplay. I'm primarily asking my fellow mods and the admins here, but do we have a copy of it?

All I know about it is that it was called something along the lines of "unusually cerebral" or "too real," or something outlandish like a "psychedelic road trip." Does anyone here have a copy? If so, why hasn't it been shared with our community? If not, where can we find it?

All versions of the script that we have are currently on the site itself.

Jim Jennewein apparently has an earlier draft of the fantasy script, but he never got around to sending it to us. We also have a few variations of the shooting script that don't merit posting as the differences are negligible.

So, is the Barry Morrow First Draft a myth, then? Because I've heard about it from multiple sources (IMDb, word of mouth, microfilm, etc), though we've yet to see it.

No, it's real. It's listed as one of the scripts in the inventory document that Lightmotive sent me.

Can we see that? That sounds like something we'd all like to see a PDF of.

The Morrow draft is certainly not a myth. It was one of the first things that Roland Joffe and Jake Eberts had commissioned for the film. I think they spent quite a bit of money to get Morrow on board. They were hoping that his credibility from Rain Man would attract the kind of talent they were looking for--actors that normally wouldn't go for this sort of film. I think we did track down some old newspaper articles that we haven't posted yet that talk a little bit about it.

Well, if we can't see the draft yet-- can we at least see the Lightmotive document Redstar mentioned? That'd be awesome.
