When Almost Unreal was originally written, it was planned to be used in a different film.
The song was specially written for the film Hocus Pocus, which explains the continual use of those two words in the lyrics.
But, for some reason, they decided to put the song in SMB instead. Probably because they expected SMB to be a bigger success.
Anyway, can anyone think of any way the lyrics could be connected with SMB? They appear to be completely unrelated.
Almost Unreal and its relation to the film
Re: Almost Unreal and its relation to the film
They basically turned it into a love song for Luigi/Daisy, as evident in the SMB version of the music video:

I think it goes better with Super Mario Brothers: The Movie. I saw Hocus Pocus and enjoyed it, but there is no love story, it's about three kids(a brother, his sister and a girl he likes) who free and than attempt to stop a trio of witches from enslaving the town with magic. The words Hocus Pocus are the only relation to that film.

Does anyone know how long it will be until Almost Unreal goes public domain and you don't have to pay royalties to do a cover?
I ask this because, if anyone makes an unofficial sequel, I'd like them to use that song.

I know the topic is a bit old but recently until I discovered this board, I didn't know it was originally intended for Hocus Pocus. In fact I misheard the lyrics as "I love what you do, that hope gives focus to me" rather than "I love when ya do that Hocus Pocus to me"
