Ok, just messaged them, thanks. Those MEL headbusts sound better than the resin cast ones that were on ebay, especially if it comes with removable skin. Hope they got some left. :D

Ok, Paul from MEL emailed me back and told me this:

Hi Bill, yes we still have them for sale, attached is a photo of a painted head, they come unpainted, they are made out of latex and poly-foam.

Unpainted $125
Painted $225
Thanks Paul

I guess they're not $60 anymore...but I would rather buy a painted one from them than a unpainted anyway since my skills don't go beyond basic set painting (plus what it would cost to get the materials). Better for me to get one done professionally.

I won't be able to get one anytime soon though, since money is tight right now :|

Oh, darn! You know, I did get the bust half-off for taking the time to go down there... I might've forgotten to take that into consideration when stating the price, though I was sure I did! :?

No worries, man. I'd totally go and visit the place too if I wasn't way the hell out on the East Coast haha. I plan buying a painted bust from them sometime in the near future, hopefully by Halloween :)

I would absolutely LOVE to get my hands on a pair of the boots... preferably a pair that could be worn, of course.

I really did love those things in the movie. I even incorporated them into subsequent fanart I did, which was more regular Mario with a few movie elements-- namely, the belts and the boots.

Well guys, when it rains, it pours...

As cool as it was to find one Stomper Boot, especially since we knew that so few survived production, what's better than one boot...?

TWO boots!!

Image

This find caught me really off guard and to be honest, I wasn't even searching for these at the time I found out about them. This matching pair of Stomper Boots has been owned by the same individual for over 10 years who happened to purchase them from one of the prop makers not long after filming wrapped. These have been in storage, unseen by anyone for a good part of the last decade and the owner just so happened to stumble upon pics of my single boot a couple of weeks ago. From our conversations, it sounds like these may very well be the pair of boots that were thrown out into a dumpster after production and were retrieved by someone in the prop dept. Up to this point, these were just part of the unfortunate history of the boots being mostly destroyed and I had no knowledge that they were still around.

Overall, these boots are in even better condition than the first boot I acquired, as you can see in the fairly well-preserved paint and the less wear & tear on the bottoms. In fact, this now gives us a great look at what the Thwomp character logo looked like on the bottom of the boots! As with the first, single boot, these boots also have the clothes hangar wire around the ankle braces and have velcro on the insides to keep the braces closed, meaning these were also worn by Bob Hoskins & John Leguizamo for scenes requiring running in the boots.

They're a great find and I am glad that we now have some other surviving boots that will surely be well-taken care of from here on out!

Amazing. These are in even better condition than your previous find! This is an absolutely stunning find, moviemaker29; I can't imagine the intrinsic value behind them.

I (and I'm sure Phlibbit) would just love to hear more about the individual who safeguarded and preserved this pair, as well as why he did so. :)

Thanks Steven! These really are a great find and one that really caught me by surprise. I'm just glad they were still around and that someone had enough interest to take care of them.

As with some of the other items I've found, these didn't stray far from North Carolina after filming was completed. I have noticed a trend that items from this film ended up staying fairly local to where it was shot on the east coast. So many of the crew members were native to that area so many of the props just stayed around there. I kind of get the impression that even as huge of a production as it was, that there was so much relief when filming was over, that many of the props just ended up going to whoever wanted them which is why they've been in private collections for so long. If it weren't for the internet, I don't know if any of these items would have ever turned up. Nonetheless, they have been owned by people who cared about the work done on the film and took care of these props over the years.

Very lucky for us fans!

I grew up in NC, and remember after learning that the movie was shot there, wanting to cross the state to where the film was shot so I might be able to find any overlooked remnants. Ah, youth.

And, of course, I was told there was no way, etc., etc. Funny to think they actually did just throw them away! So I was half-right... but they would undoubtedly have been long gone before I ever got there. Granted, I was more interested in looking around the factory itself, but...

Anyway, the important thing is that with these, they can now be reverse-engineered, and there will be Thwomp Stompers for all! The world will be ours! Ahahaha!

...ahem. Yes, awesome pieces. I am quite jealous.

I came across this photo of one of the "Fry Guy" flamethrowers on the Prop Stop memorabilia blog. Unfortunately, they don't have it. Perhaps someone we know does?

Actually, yes I do know who has that gun. I haven't spoken to him in a while but at the time he definitely didn't want to sell it. Perhaps I should shoot him another email sometime soon...

I would really love to get my hands on the spiky jacket that the cops in the movie wear, or a spiked overcoat that the Goombas wear. Then I could walk around and scare all the hippies.

I love those jackets. They're so simply designed, yet they really embody the theme of the parallel world so well. It's a very comic book costume design.

Hello, I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but if anyone was wondering.

The cap that Mario wore in the movie was a Red Gatsby or Ivy cap.

I've been looking for one similar for months now and I finally bought one. I'm planning on making a fan film and I wanted to wear the hat Bob Hoskins wore.

if anyone is interested in buying one, here is where I got mine.

http://www.e4hats.com/_e/Ultra_Fit_One_ ... ps_Red.htm

The really cool thing is that when the bill is unsnapped it looks like the Game version of Mario's famous cap.

Why haven't we bought all the costuems from that one site yet.
I think the crown Jewel of the costumes is Dennis Hoppers Suit It's freaking awesome I love the tie.
For props I want to see the nametags of the goombas and all the paintings.
As well as the stuff on koopas desk.

There's allot to recover I remember some guy on Ebay old some of the BOOM BOOM bat stools a few years back does any one know what happened to them?

Oh and there are some people who collect movie cars or the van. Do you think someone might have some of the cop cars Or hell even a sludge gulper.

If none of them exist do we know what happened to them?

Back in 2009 when I initiated this thread, most of the costumes I posted links to were already in private collections and the police uniform & Koopa's suit jacket & tie that were available at the time have since been sold. I am not sure who got the police uniform, however I do know where Koopa's jacket & tie went. They are good hands.

Since then, one of Daisy's dresses has been sold to another private collector and Mario's tan & red jacket was sold, but other than that, not many other costumes from the film have turned up. I have been trying to track down Mario & Luigi's jumpsuits from the film but there hasn't been a trace of those in years. In fact, I am not entirely sure if they have even been for sale publicly before.

But there are still some neat items out there that Steven, Ryan, and I are tracking.

Stay tuned!

A little obscure, but I wonder whatever happened to the "false throne" Koopa set up in Devo 4, beneath the old King? I mean, I've always thought that that wasn't the true throne, but rather something Koopa put there to mock his crippled enemy out of his extreme ego. But what happened to that chair?

Well sort of...haha. I've slipped a foot in one of them, but because of how fragile they are, I haven't actually tried to wear them as I don't want to put any pressure on the foam. They're definitely not a costume piece anymore. Just great display pieces!

What I find interesting about the Thwomp emblem on the bottoms of the boots is that it shows just how much detail went into the design of the props and set decoration on the film. People have been quick to criticize the movie for not staying true to the games, yet the production team put a ton of effort into referencing the games in subtle, but cool ways and I find this to be a great example of that. It's one of the aspects of the film that I love the most.

And of course, even though the Thwomp design was never seen on the bottoms of the boots, there was still a ton of great Thwomp signage elsewhere in the film so the design definitely didn't go to waste.

Think of it in terms of the film universe: the logo is on the bottom of the boots so that they can be advertised to the public beneath jumpers.

A call to all my fellow movie fans;

If any of you own more props, costumes and other bits please do photograph as best as possible and upload here. You will be credited for your contribution and we will use the photos to vastly improve our currently lacking Production section.

Sorry to seem like shameless requesting, but the more we have the more professional the site seems and the more clout we will have as the face of the fanbase.

Rory, you've done an excellent job on the Props/Costumes/Creatures sections of the site! Everything looks great!

When I get some time, I'll start putting together write-ups for some of the other props, similar to the article about the Stomper Boots.

Also, in the costumes section, you might want to add a row for the Snifit costumes that were used for the landfill workers in the film.

Again, awesome work!

Thanks for the update Rory! I always thought the designers did a great job referencing the Snifit design from the game with those costumes!

I'll get to work on fleshing out the info in the props & costumes section. I am really digging the simplicity of the layout you've gone with to catalog all of these production items.

Well, as it's become harder to find items from the film that are still left around, unfortunately that's resulted in fewer prop/costume updates, as you've all noticed...

But, luckily I came across some GREAT new item(s) a few weeks ago that none of us knew were still around and now they've been added to the slowly expanding SMB prop archive! Today's update brings us a great look at one of the closest visual references to the games that can be found in the film - the Dinohatten Landfill worker mask, aka, the Snifit Mask.

Although, this is not the complete costume, I was fortunate enough to get the mask and a pair of boots from this ensemble. A great piece that was nicely featured in the film!

Although you didn't get the entire costume, the mask is definitely the most iconic piece, and the boots are probably the second thing I'd want. Great find! I'm glad you're able to keep this collection growing :)

Thanks guys! Yeah, the mask was definintely the piece I was most interested in. It's still in excellent condition! It really doesn't bother me too much that the costume wasn't complete because I don't exactly have the room to display an entire costume on a mannequin, but the boots were a very nice bonus in addition to the mask. They are fairly heavy rubber boots. As an interesting example of incorporating "found items" into the costume & production design, those buckles that you see at the top of the boot knee pads are actually seatbelt buckles out of a car...lol They would have been attached to the costume's belt but since I don't have that part of the ensemble, they just hang loosely off of the boots.

Billbot85, I got the set from a prop/wardrobe auction.

That is superb stuff, moviemaker29! :D
It has been added to the now functioning costumes page

Click the image of costumes to bring up the gallery of photos. Includes some concept artwork from Joseph Porro, behind the scenes photos and moviemaker29's fantastic private photos.
I will update this more when I can, as I have to go to work now. However the level of detail from your photos is superb ^_^ Look forward to more.

Thanks man. Hopefully I'll be able to find time to update that Costumes page more (With screenshots, Behind The Scenes photos etc) and then start the Props page before Christmas. I'm doing 6 full days a week at work atm though, so finding time is very difficult. It's appreciated to know that you like the gallery setup though :)
