SMB 35mm Print
So last night on eBay, I had a 150 dollar bid on the Super Mario Bros movie in it's original 35mm print and, I won it for 26.00+ shipping. I can't wait to get it, hopefully it's a directors cut or something. I doubt it will be a director's cut, but that would be sweet. I may be thinking of renting out a theater just to watch it again on the big screen and, relive my childhood memory of that faithful day the movie came out. This isn't really news, I just wanted to share the purchase I just made last night.

Re: SMB 35mm Print
It would be really cool if you could find a away to show us a sampel of the quality, or are you planning to release it on the interent?
Wario is the evil clone of Mario. If they had created a sequal in 94' than Wario would probly be the bad guy and be played by hoskins, but do the cookie cutter film trick. I dream about that movie.
Re: SMB 35mm Print
WOW man, just wow! That is awesome! Man, I wish I would've seen that on eBay or I would've gotten that myself. This has the potential to actually solve some interesting questions raised by the film's theatrical release. I've heard on a number of occasions that there is an extended scene of the first Devo Chamber sequence in the theatrical release.
So, where do you live?
Oh wait, was it the one that was just the first reel? If so, I meant to bid on that but my sniper didn't work on me. I wonder how much of the movie that first reel actually covers...

Hey that's flippin awesome man! Seriously, only 26 bucks? Well, hope it's got some never before seen scenes on it, that would kick so much a**. If not, still a nice thing to have.
And no, it's not news. It's bragging rights
I never got the chance to see it on the big screen, but if you saw me as a kid, I was plain happy burning up the vhs.

Yeah it's just the first reel. Does that mean it's not the whole movie or what? I had 150 dollars on it and suprisingly everybody stopped at 26. The seller said he shipped it out yesterday.

All I can really show is the reel. I don't own a projector. I'll make a video of it and put it on my youtube account when it comes. Hopefully the sun won't melt it when it sits on my door step, haha.

Re: SMB 35mm Print
By the way everyone I got this in the mail about a week or two ago. It's in great shape, I would say it may cover about 15-30 minutes. I'm not really too sure, it'd be nice to have a projector, the cost of renting a theater would cost way too much for the length of this film.
Re: SMB 35mm Print
Maybe you could talk them into doing it before/after hours

Re: SMB 35mm Print
I've got a question about the different versions of Smb.
So, I'm a fan and I'm about to buy some copies of the movie along with some other merchandise off ebay.
My question is...is there a different between the vhs copy and the fs dvd?
Also, do you see more of the screen with the fs version, like mortal kombat?

Re: SMB 35mm Print
Well, first of all, the DVD is in widescreen. But it's not enhanced for widescreen DVD players or televisions, so make sure it's on the 4:3 mode of the player/TV so it doesn't stretch it out.
As far as I know, the DVD is in the original theatrical aspect ratio, so you'll see the whole picture.

Re: SMB 35mm Print
I'm getting confused here (not just from this thread)... was the theater release longer than the DVD version? I never saw it in theaters. I just rented it when I heard about it, and I liked it, so I bought it!

I don't remember, I was either 7 or 8 when I saw it at the theater.

Nice, you need to find a way to capture it!

Re: SMB 35mm Print
Well I just wanted to let you all know I contacted a website that does 35mm theatrical film restoration. I e-mailed them asking about their service, if it's good enough to me, they have 100% feedback, and if it isn't too pricey, I will have them restore the first reel in HD for Bluray or DVD. Whichever is cheaper. As long as I get my film back which I asked them, I'm still waiting for their answer. Hopefully they don't need the original negative to do it, or else this is just pointless. I just wanted to let you guys on the inside of whats going on with the first reel.
EDIT
This process costs 400-500$$$$$ something that I don't have, I'm out on this deal.

Re: SMB 35mm Print
It would be an extremely time consuming process to do, but I have a friend with a film scanner, one he picked up at Wal-Mart, it makes very good high resolution scans, although each completed scan runs about 70 MB per photo.

$400 to $500 isn't actually that much, if you set up for everyone to chip in.
See if the site and forumers would pay money to the restoration of this reel. $500 is a lot to one person, but split between 5 people is $100, split between 10 is $50, split between 20 is $25...
If a Blu-Ray would be available, I would buy it

It was long ago but when I e-mailed them I think they said they would be forced to send back to the studio because I don't own the movie or something stupid like that.

Yeah, I would just hold on to the 35MM print for now.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

It would be very pointless to ship it to somebody who probably wouldn't return and it what not. I also recently moved to Washington state and stored a bunch of my stuff in Ohio. So as of now, I technicaly don't have it on me anymore.

If I were you, I'd make sure it's kept in a cool, dry place while you're away. Film degrades very easily and it would be a shame for a perfectly good copy of the film to rot away without ever having been played. Maybe you can send for it?
