What if...

Postby Carl » Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:34 pm

If a new movie were to be made, it's far too late for a sequel, what would you like to see in a reboot?
What elements would you incorporate from recent games, would you do it as an origin story or a stand alone story, would you go the route that paramount took in 1993 or go for a more literal interpretation, and lastly, who would you cast?

If anything in a re-boot, I would honestly like to see the Bros as two short guys who are really goofy. Somewhat like the live action Super Mario Bros Super Show segments, mixed with the 3 stooges. While working on a construction site they find a pipe and fall into it, when they come out they're in the Mushroom Kingdom, and at the same time they just so happen to arrive at the time Peach is being kidnapped, told they are the warriors who would fall from the sky, the rest is history.

If I ever somehow made something that brought me into the biz, I would try so hard to get a remake this movie.

To be honest, as much as they hated it, I did like the casting of Hoskins and Leguizamo. I think with everything technology wise today, creating their world and cast of characters seems a little easier of a task.

I do appreciate what was done in the 93 movie but there was a review somewhere a person said Star Wars had some better looking creatures and that was 77-83. I agree some stuff was cool and then some of the extras look ultra cheap. I like the origin or attempts to explain how they came to be "Super" and had their first adventure. Even though everyone from the cartoons has come to see Mario as heroic and getting the girl and Luigi as cowardly, I like that twist and seemed to make sense to have a love interest for the younger guy.

Even as some people have said it makes Mario seem like a non believing jerk which for his come around at the end seems to work. Worked well having the two of them contrasting with the 'lets go do it' attitude with the 'grounded in reality' Mario. I dunno even to this day a literal translation of Mario's world seems kinda silly. It seems to work for the cartoon for obvious reasons that it's not two grown men going around in pipes jumping on turtles :D

I don't know if I can honestly say I'd be interested in a Mario movie nowadays, personally! I imagine it would be a similar save the princess as always but I'm not sure how literally translating it would do. Maybe as a kind of dark fantasy? Then again, I dunno! haha

EDIT: I did like the Super Mario Bros Super Show and the hokey-ness of the whole thing. I think they had the right idea with the characters based on the "silliness" of the cartoons and that world. Interesting to see how they'd play out in a full movie or if it would come off as even more ridiculous than the 93 movie.
