He's got a Bob Omb!!!

Postby Zack » Thu Nov 19, 2009 7:50 pm

I was thinking more about it today, I imagine Bob Ombs within the Mario movie were utilized as weapons. Where do you think they originate from? If you think they were used by Koopa's army or police force or do you think they came from somewhere else? Like a street weapon.

Where ever they came from, they sure instilled fear in anyone that was near it. :)

Yeah I'm really bored lol

If you ask me, they're rudimentary AI-drones designed to concentrate damage on a single point without risking much damage on other areas. This explains how the Bob-Omb in the movie somehow, coincidentally, traveled all the way across the ground and up the wall to Koopa's position. It wasn't dumb-luck; it was basic programming. Bob-Ombs are terror weapons.

Either that, or their programming is in some way connected to that real fun guy Koopa's got in his possession. I don't quite know how to explain it...I think Daisy might have gotten ahold of as many Bob-ombs as she could find and then secretly "fed" them to her father. He then imbued them with his frustration at his current situation, and told them that the only way peace could be restored was to stop Koopa. It follows that the King's Bob-ombs would therefore actively pursue Koopa instead of merely detonating when the clockwork mechanism stopped.

I like to think that, amidst all the Blade Runner-lite goings-on and bogus technobabble, there is an abstract, metaphysical side to the SMB movie.

those are very cool thoughts! Makes me wonder about other things. If Thwomp Stompers are luxary footwear I guess? Like those really expensive sneakers some people buy lol They seem to be for sale but not many people have them, or that we see.

I wonder if they're to help people get around crowded areas or if there are any legal restrictions on their use or their function in the society of Dinohattan. Obviously we saw them used for an easy getaway for thieves. Going around with a weapon seems to be advised. The cops seem more concerned with people holding up the flow of traffic.

Yes I'm bored at work and reading far too much into this movie again :D Overthinking.

That's an entirely possible theory. The fact that the King has somehow retained a level of consciousness/sentience in his de-evolved form is a clear indication of the abstract and metaphysical. I quite like the idea that, on some level, the Bob-Ombs are directed by his primal frustration and desire for vengeance.

Hey, you can't overthink this movie. The writers certainly didn't put as much thought into it as they should have, so why can't we? :D
