I'm not sure I've seen this brought up on the site, you all have probably seen it already. But one of That Guy with the Glasses first reviews was on the SMB movie.
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/187-super-mario-brothers-the-movie
He makes a lot of good points about the movies flaws, "A British actor and a Latino, playing two italian plumbers." and the replay of the bob-omb scene. It's prett funny, I suggest checking it out and his other vids. He also sums the movie up very well by saying, "this is SMB, ON STEROIDS!"

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
I've seen it. I discovered that guy a few weeks ago, watched some of his videos, and decided he's a complete arrogant prick that doesn't know how to appreciate a good movie. He's even "reviewed" several movies by stating he never saw them in the first place, which really just negates his supposed-role as a "nostalgia" critic.
His review of the SMB movie came off particularly bad to me. Yeah, the movie's got some bad aspects to it, but he just does not get it. He throws a damn fit over the "How many Marios are there among you" scene... Any person can realize that was sheer brilliance in showing why they're the "Mario Brothers". As for his tiff over an English and Latino actor, all I can say is a good actor can play any role. Mario and Luigi aren't defined by their ethnicity.

I am pretty sure the way he acts is a joke, just like AVGN. If he were to be serious about what he says, he would be a prick. thnk the guy is funny, and makes a lot of good jokes at the right time. I really like when he makes that joke about them being Father, and Son and Bros. and Mother, and uncle.
When did he say he never watched a movie he reviewed? I'm curious to that because every movie he does practicly show the entire movie in 18 minutes.

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
Well, yeah, he's joking... But I dunno. I really don't see how comedy makes these sorts of things better. Even if he's "jokingly" bashing something, he's still bashing it and continuing the perception that the things he reviews are bad. They may be bad, but he usually cherry-picks the most unrepresentative aspects and makes them bad, when they really weren't.
I didn't mean he said he didn't watch the movie to review it, but that he didn't watch the movie when it was popular, so he isn't qualified to deliver a "nostalgia" review. He does this with his Pokémon: The First Movie review, where he complains the movie doesn't explain what a Pokemon is.

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
I do enjoy his videos but of course this is one where I'm inclined to disagree a bit.
My main gripe is really his inaccurate(for the sake of comedy?) statements that Mario and Luigi are father and son rather than Mario raised him and he's a much older brother. Also the whole last name thing makes sense, everyone couldn't seem to accept anything that wasn't two guys with mustaches jumping on turtles for 2 hrs, the animated series did a good job of doing that...Even I can differentiate the movie from the games for what it was. It's not a great movie but it's far from what everyone makes it out to be IMO.
In the end Mario doesn't know what's wrong, over the course of the movie he has become more accepting of things that are incredible and unusual.
This is one of those I could see the AVGN reviewing and being a little less negative. Granted the movie is what it was but I could see the Nerd liking it a little more at least.

I'm pretty sure that's it. The Internet is all about "being funny" these days.
I always enjoyed this review: Why the Super Mario movie is an underappreciated masterpiece.

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
I wouldn't take his review to seriously, it's done to be funny. No need to get offended by it. The one thing he is really right about is the movie being SMB on steroids, honestly it really is. Guns, flame throwers, boots that are metal, etc. Also Mario's real last name isn't Mario. Nintendo said this already, he doesn't have a last name. If anything it's Segulli, who Mario was originally named after, Mario Segulli, after they scrapped the name Jumpman.
Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
Yeah, so in Nintendo's current universe, Mario has no last name, was born in the Mushroom Kingdom, and, no offense to Charles Martinet, sounds like a complete weirdo when speaking. All the intriguing Mario "backstory" parts of the canon were a lot better in the old days, IMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGFRi_ueq-M lol classic 4:07 really sums up what the core of Mario Bros is about.
lol 2 mins "some questions have no answers
my ass lol their last names have to be Mario. The problem is no one really questioned them having last names at all until the movie said it. It does sound like a ridiculous idea to have the same name but I thought it was a humorous element.
The critics review was pretty dead on with the problems the movie has but still the way he acts like the filmmakers intentionally made them father and son is a bit annoying, when that's not at all what the movie says.

Mario and Luigi's last name being Mario was stated in at least one other media (I believe a comic/manga serial), but Nintendo doesn't really treat the Mario games with any sense of continuity. They like to leave things vague.
Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
Probably my favorite review of the film that best describes the films problems without annoying yelling and an intelligent analysis lol yeah I know it's part of the Nostalgia Critics shtick

Re: Nostalgia Critic Review
I liked that review. Not exactly positive, but it was respectable of the film and pointed out legitimate flaws. And the quality of the movie was good! Is the DVD that pristine?

Right. And I don't blame them for it, because the point of the games are gameplay and fun. A movie/cartoon/comic/etc. is a different story entirely. Probably the best Nintendo game with continuity is the Metroid series (off the top of my head). That's part of what makes that series so great, IMO.
Still, I think that's the entire reason why the SMB movie turned out the way it did. It's the fundamental problem of taking a wonderful video game with a vague storyline and continuity and attempting to transform that into a film with a solid backbone, and a beginning, middle, and end. And the resulting film was an endlessly intriguing experiment that I doubt we'll ever see happen again.

The DVD looks pretty good when it's shrunk down that much. However, trying to watch it on a widescreen TV is awful because it wasn't encoded right and stretches the video out.

I totally agree with that. The 80's backstory is a hell of a lot better. It really went down hill after SMW though. I think DiC came up with the whole Brooklyn story, since MB arcade took place in a NY sewer. Im not 100% sure on that. (Like in the anime movie they owned a grocery store)
Also I once saw a vid on yotube, it was a news clip from the 80's interviewing some head hancho of Nintendo at the time. They asked him if Mario was the Bros. last name he laughed and said no. That was from the 80's so it's not just Nintendo's current Mario universe. It always has been that way. I'm not saying NO DONT BELIEVE MARIO'S NOT HIS LAST NAME. I like the idea of that being the last name since they are called MARIO Bros.
I just can't believe how offended alot of you guys are over the Critics review. I love the SMB movie and franchise all together, his review is nothing. Just a fun little nitpick. Was there this much chaos when Cracked magazines parody of the movie came out on magazine stands? Insert South Park "rabble! rabble! rabble!"
If I ever made a live action sequel trailer, it would probably respect, and make fun of the actual movie.
