Now, we don't know if that's exactly how that scene played out, but it's pretty much a given that any alternate scenes would be a fascinating look at how the film could have played out differently. :)

I don't need a "director's cut" of the movie, as I like the movie the way it was. I would not mind a DVD with unused scenes as features separate from the movie, though. They, along with commentary or notes, would give folks an idea of the process of making a movie.

Occasionally a "director's cut" of a movie is better than the version released to movie theaters. I thought the "director's cut" of "Legend" was better than the theatrical version, which I did not enjoy or understand very well.

Nine times out of ten the director's cut is better than the original cut. The only exceptions I can think of that are different are "Combat Shock" and maybe "Amadeus."

I think the important thing to realize is that we're not necessarily looking for a "director's cut" so much as just a film re-cut per the earlier scripts. Certainly the film would be better if it included some of the cut subplots and atmospheric moments, though we know enough about Rocky and Annabel's directing style to feel that an actual "director's cut" might be unwatchable. They just didn't film much of anything important to the progression of the story. Still, they had a directing style that lent towards a much more detail-oriented world.

It's just a whole lot easier to say "Director's Cut," or in our case, it might be best to say "Extended Cut."

i am watching the film now and there is a mention of something by luigi saying that mario told daisy (in the truck on the way to the sight after they first meet her) that Luigi sucks his thumb. However I have no evidence to support this scene was deleted. Anyone got anything on it?

Luigi/Mario and Daisy did have some additional interaction leading up to their arrival in the parallel world, though not much of it was very significant. I doubt they filmed anything for that particular scene.

I don't know if I'd call it "insignificant," as the alternate meeting of Daisy and Luigi featured him catching her as she fell on a wet spot in the diner where the Scapelli goons had taken the Mario's job... And any other exposition after that is more than welcome in my book.

I understand this is something that has been asked more than once, but what is the story behind the "de-evolution" scene being originally in the theatricle cut and then removed for future DVD/VHS releases...you know...there is a strange theory I have. Battlefield Earth was re-cut for home video, but on TV stations, they air the theatricle cut (I have a copy of this airing to prove it).

Now, I don't know if this is possible, but some TV airings add extra footage to padd out the running time. Unless someone is still luck, there is the possibility of a TV airing of Super Mario Bros. having some of the extra scenes in a broadcast cut. I don't know if it possible, but if someone has a TBS recording or something, please do check for the fate of us fans dying to see this lost material that we hope isn't.

The theatrical cut having any extended or new scenes, the de-evolution scene in particular, has always just been a rumor based on memory. Following our theatrical screening events this year I believe we can safely say that there has only ever been one cut of the film.

Seconded. That's only been strengthened by me seeing two different 35mm prints of the film in both LA and NC. I'm pretty sure we can put to rest the claims that certain scenes were kept in the theatrical version.

I'm sorry, but I have to concur. I have a good friend with a photographic memory who saw the movie in theaters twice (once in a regular theater, the second time at a drive-in) and he insists that the de-evolution sequence was in the versions he saw in theaters. I don't believe everything he says, but I trust him on this, because he finished the sentence for me before I could. He knew what I was talking about... I know that somewhere, that scene is in a print.

'Concur' means "to agree with," which the rest of your post suggests otherwise.

I'm sorry, I keep forgetting that. I guess I meant to say "I beg to differ." I think "concur" is French in origin, which was never a strongpoint for me.

Judging(sorry if i spelled it wrong) from the trailer,

A car bumps into the Bros. Car during the car chase scene, possibly hitting a police car.

The "Oh no, not again!" line, possibly refering to the car they got above it, after the one mentioned above.

Alternate shots,

Sequences after the dimensions merged, feels like were missing a bunch of stuff there.

And my favorite, Mario being chased in the corridors of Koopas's Tower by Goombas ( we briefly see Mario jumping to the right corridor while a fireball explodes into the wall.

at least its similar :D I dunno, could be deleted stuff as well.

The pose in the picture by Iggy seems different than the image at the start of this thread. He's standing up straighter.

It IS highly likely that both pictures were taken in the same photoshoot

It would have been cool if they really played up the scene when Mario faces off with Koopa, and they had Koopa putting on this outfit, and Mario suiting up with his Mario uniform and Thompson Stompers.

Look, I know you're new to the boards and enthusiastic about the Super Mario Bros. movie and all and that's great. But don't you ever, EVER compare the Super Mario Bros. movie to "The Hunger Games." That story is just a tween ripoff of Battle Royale, which in turn is a Japanese retelling/ripoff of Lord of the Flies. Super Mario Bros. has more artistic integrity than all those put together. Thank you, drive thru.

That's like your opinion man. Snapping at someone for comparing your sacred cow to another movie.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

Just in reference to this by Ryan, the page has now been updated. Let us know what you think while I scour this thread for other deleted/extended scenes to put into the page. It has updates on Toad's Song, Riverfront Cafe, Devo Chamber etc. Most are aesthetic differences to make life easier to navigate, some have new information added and the layout is designed to assist in piecing together the scene in sequence where possible.

This will be updated in time with video footage of the scenes with as much video/visual material as we have available to us.

Also the trailers and Featurettes have been given a major makeover, including re-uploading the split footage as longer single videos (The Making Of documentaries are all one single video now instead of 3 parts, for example).

Great work, Roareye! This is one of the high-traffic pages that really needed an overhaul. I really love how much more interestingly the information is presented as well as the array of evidence. It really looks that much better!

Serum wrote:Good to know, thanks for the update. Is there any new lost footage that's been discovered?

Unfortunately not. Discovering actual footage evidence of cut scenes is very unlikely. It really was a stroke of luck that we came across the extended prison scenes from the Bad Influence promo.

Thanks Redstar :)

There are updates occuring across the site, including improved contents/index pages for each section to make navigation vastly improved, especially on tablets and phones where the mouse-hover menus don't work.
