Now I can't be the only man alive who notices the striking similarities between Iggy and Spike and Wario and Waluigi (respectively).
Iggy is clearly the dominant one, he's full of himself, and he's pretty quick to anger much like Wario. Spike on the other hand suffers alot of slapstick violence throughout the movie which Waluigi gets plenty of. They even LOOK similar, Iggy's got that sort of wide face and twin chin thing going on while Spike has a very thin face with a long nose. Iggy's even wearing fingerless gloves for most of the movie like Warioware Wario and if you're looking while Spike is being put through de-evolution you can clearly see he's wearing pointy shoes!
They even play the same roles as a sort of evil dopplegangers. Iggy and Spike are Mario and Luigi's opposites in many ways.
I know it couldn't have been intentional since Waluigi wasn't introduced for seven years after the film but I just think it's amazing how the movie managed to predict Wario and Waluigi pairing up to antagonize the Mario Bros. Maybe Waluigi was invented keeping in mind the relationship Iggy and Spike shared with Mario and Luigi, another way the movie has sort of lived on.
This made the film that much more enjoyable for me.
Iggy and Spike
Re: Iggy and Spike
To tell you the truth, I've never thought of it that way. They even steal Mario's spotlight in video games (Wario Land, Super Koopa Cousins)!
This is what Iggy Koopa looks like:

and this is what Spike looks like:

I always wondered why they weren't both named after Koopalings, but after learning they were originally supposed to be Bloober and Wart...
I doubt they were based on any game character.
But to tell you the truth, I think that's a good thing. Video games and movies are very different, and they shouldn't just be translated directly. It would be annoying if they had included all seven Koopalings.

Re: Iggy and Spike
Very good observations, guys. It's really interesting if you think of Iggy and Spike as Mario and Luigi's other-dimensional counterparts. One thing though--I don't think Iggy and Spike were ever named Bloober and Wart; I think they were just some lab technicians in the Devo Chamber scene.
Re: Iggy and Spike
Oh... So in the script, are Bloober and Wart mentioned, as well as Spike and Iggy? I don't know why I thought they were the same people.
On the subject of unknown characters, do you know who Egan and James are? They're listed in the credits.
PS: I couldn't get on the forum earlier today. Was it down?
EDIT: When I try to create a new topic, it brings me back to the main page!

Re: Iggy and Spike
Whoa, no idea who Egan and James would be. And I've no idea why the forums were down. In fact, all of my websites were down for a while. Maybe my webhost was having problems or something.

Re: Iggy and Spike
I think Egan was the controller at the Devo Chamber.
As for James, he was the guy with the wheel barrel when Daisy went to find a pay phone when Scapelli showed up.
Daisy: James, I'm gonna find a phone and call for Security (something like that)
James: Alright.

Good find!
But I'm not too sure about Egan still. The Devo Controller
and Devo Technician are already credited. I'm using this site for the credits, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108255/fullcredits#cast
They have a good picture of Kevin West, listed as the devo controller, and he looks like the guy who smiles as he fiddles with the de-evolution settings. So I'm not sure who Egan is then.
