Took a long time to collate and put together, and the topics on this forum were extremely helpful in pulling the information together However you were all mistaken on the Wiggler reference, even if the taxi service would be the obvious reference, Wiggler is actually a Liquor. The ad on the taxi is just an advert, the neon liquor sign is visible prominently in the Boom Boom Bar and also when Mario and Luigi are jumping into the dump truck a short while later. I guess they decided on Wiggler Liquor because you can get certain liquor brands with a worm in the bottom.

I hope the list is comprehensive enough, and as always we'd love to hear even more references within the movie Now to relax and update a new page tomorrow ^_^

I can now officially announce that Birdo is NAMED in the movie! But not as the egg-pushing mother in the streets of Dinohattan.

The name "Birdo Taxi" is emblazened upon the sides of the taxi used in the film.
Here is the image that proves this;


Wiggler (Commonly believed to be the name of the taxi service) is the name of a beer, also emblazened on advertising with a bottle in the back streets of Dinohattan and in the Boom Boom Bar.

Just one of several interesting tidbits which will be added to the entire site range including additions for Props, Behind The Scenes and, of course, scans of the entire Japanese Promotional Brochure itself.

First time post..

Not sure if this has been mentioned earlier.

- the fungus acts as a power up/ aid to the Mario Bros, throughout the film, much like the mushrooms are used in the game to aid Mario through the levels. ( ie. the Fungus/mushroom trampoline scene, the fungus safety net in the car chase scene.) its very subtle symbolism derived from the game.

- Toward the end of the car chase scene, the Mario Bros are spewed out of a Large Pipe into the desert, before being caught by the fungus.

- The helmets and spikes on the Koopa Police resemble, both designs of the Hammer Bros and Koopa Troopas.

- Toad gives advice and warning how the king has been transformed, very similar to Mario 3 during the cut scenes of each level.

- the Marios encounter various pits and platforms they have to jump across / to, much like the tedious pits and holes in the games.

We've covered all that in excruciating detail-- but it's good to know that you know what the filmmakers were trying to do, which means they did their job right!

It's good to know that people still recognize the many influences the games had on the film. It really is easy to overlook if you don't know what to look for.
